Hello all. I’m back after a week in the hospital with Aspiration Pneumonia. (look it up) went by ambulance to the hospital on the 15th of last month. My O2 in an ambulance was 76% They put me on pure O2 & it came up to 89%

After many tests in the hospital, finally found out I had food going into my lungs & no room for O2. They got me with a speech therapist to help show me how to strengthen the flapper by lungs so no food would go in there.

I have only certain foods I can eat, very small bites & all my drinks has to have thickener in them so it ill passes the flapper without going into my lungs. It’s like trying to drink a very thick milkshake but the taste is worse.

My eyes were very blurry from not getting my shot in my eye. So I couldn’t be on the computer. I got my shot yesterday Feb. 1st. Dr. said I had lots of blood in my right eye, so he doubled the dose in the shot.

Now my eyes have cleared up & things are looking up. Got lots of P.T. to do because of in a hospital bed for a week. Also, all the exercises to do for my throat.

Very good that you came back here, Tom! :)

It sounds difficult, but that you can carefully manage, and gradually improve.
It's good that you have the info now, and the instructions, for how to manage, and how to work at things, little by little.

Holly,
I have a fall detector pendant that I pushed to get them to call D.I.L. who's an EMT who lives next door to me at 3 am on Jan 15th. She rushed over as I was very short of breath & could hardly talk. She called 911 to get an ambulance here fast as my O2 was only 77% It dropped more in the ambulance. Hospital is only 5 miles from my house.

If you are not sick before getting into an ambulance you will be on the ride to the hospital.

At the hospital they saw I was coughing up blood, I could not quit coughing so hard I thought I was going to cough up a big toe. Done a special cat scan & saw the food in my lungs. Hung several bags of I have no idea what going into my IV in the arm. They did shoot something from a syringe into my IV by hand that lowered my coughing.

I had what many years ago old people were dying they had what they called the "death rattle" My Dr. said NOT on my watch. So God put him in my life to save it.

I'm doing speech or throat exercises very diligently. I don't want to ever go through this again. I'll only have to use the thicker for a month or so, depending on how fast I strengthen the flapper by lungs so no food will go in there.

Thanks all for asking about me.

That sounds serious Tom, sorry to hear you've been going through all that. Glad you're on the mend, please take care.
