I would like to address the seemingly prevailing notion that the government takes our taxes and we do not benefit. Also, the notion that welfare, and benefits to the poor should be left up to the individual States or charity to handle.. That may be fine for the wealthier states... but what about the poorer states? This map will show you how YOUR state measures up.. For every $1 in Federal taxes paid.. you can see how much your state receives in Federal money.
As you can see... SOME states are getting back much more than they contribute! If Federal money was eliminated... Do you REALLY believe that charitable donations can pick up the difference? That is nonsense.. The poor in these states would suffer.. and more children, poor elderly, and disabled people would die for lack of food and healthcare. Is it feasible for a person with uninsured medical bills go to their church and ask for $500,000 to cover the cost of their care? Is it feasible for a poor family to ask their friends and family or their church to help with their rent or food bills? Take a look at the map. If a state is poor, where is this charity going to come from? If a State is poor.. state taxes would not make up the difference.
