Best containers?

Hi guys,

I should start with a confession, I’m not a senior. I could however use some advice from seniors for something I’m trying to put together for other seniors. I lost my grandmother last week. For the last two years she was living in a group home and I started volunteering there to help out and honestly I grew to care for everyone there (being a group home, everyone consists of 3 other residents, but still). I gave some “pinch me” dough to my mother for Christmas and after trying it myself I realized that it would be perfect for them To exercise their hands (two find the stress balls a bit hard to use) and well frankly I think it just feels and smells great. That being said, I don’t really have $100 to spend buying everyone one. What I do have is a bit of time, a kitchen, and some essential oils. I found a recipe that looks like it would be just about the same thing. I have everything required to make some, aside from the containers for them. I would prefer it to be something they can put next to the couch so they can just open it and work their hands while watching tv. There is a caregiver there 24/7 who can help, but between cooking, cleaning, paperwork, and helping anyone who needs it, it can take her a bit to help them with this kind of thing (one of the reasons I was volunteering there) and want to make this as easy for them to do as possible.

So my question is if anyone has a recommendation on a good, airtight, easy to open containers?

Another question would be, what is your favorite scent?

Lastly, I told the caregiver to let me know if she ever needs another hand but I haven’t really heard much from her, do you think it would be weird or awkward if I came by and visited and gave them this dough? I know how hard losing my grandmother was on me, and she and the main caregiver was very close, in fact the caregiver should sleep in her room in the last couple weeks just in case she needed her, would it be to painful to have me there? I don’t want to over step myself or make things hard....

Tupperware opens easily in my experience. My mom buys some airtight plastic containers from the dollar store and they work great for her.

Sandalwood, Jasmine, and Passion flower are some favorite fragrances, but that would be a matter of personal preference for those using the dough. :eek:nthego:

A zip lock baggie should be okay; the kind with the zipper tab you can grab.

The scent of lavender is known for it's calming and relaxing effects.

Another vote for a ziplock bag.

I would be very careful about doing this. If someone develops a skin rash or decides to eat the material and becomes ill you could be opening yourself up for a serious lawsuit. I would look for another way to help.

Good luck!

That's certainly something to think about, Bea.

hey othie---a lot of people that crochet or knit make twidde mitts that they sew different things on like pom poms and the seniors love them --if you look it up on the computer you will see what i am referring to---hope this helps
