better book marks

Better book marks? I can just hear people saying "but that's too trivial to even spend time thinking about !" But I don't think so. Marking your place where you temporarily stopped reading is very useful, and so much of it is not done well at all. A lot of people fold down the corner of a page. This is inefficient in that it damages the book, if only slightly. And where was your stopping point ? At the top of the page ? With my method, it's easy to leave off reading at the start of any paragraph.

Sometimes a book has a ribbon, which is just about useless. Ditto the normal book marks. I use a rectangular few sheets of paper, maybe about 3" x 4.5", though I do use different sizes for use in books of different size. At the midpoint of the longer of the two dimensions I use a pen to draw a line with an arrow head. That's about it. The arrow points to my"resume reading" place. A longer envelope works well when it's folded in half, giving you 4 thicknesses of paper. With that, the different thicknesses stay together easily.

I have book marks from the library that are laminated ... most are advertising for places like the local food bank, etc. .. and one from the 2010 Olympic winter games that's 3D.
But I spend more time with my Kindle e-reader these days.

Back when my reading was done with actual paper paged books, I also used an old envelope. Made a deep slanted cut across a corner then slip the page corner into the 'envelope'. The Kindle I now must use has an electronic bookmark. Just touch the upper right corner at the very edge of the screen and a bookmark symbol with appear. No way to mark line though. I like the paper marker with arrow idea. I think I'll try it with a post-it note on the Kindle. Thanks

This is funny, I just got done making about 50 bookmarks for family and friends for their Summer reading. I'll be giving them out when we go to the beach this weekend.

I don't mark the line where I stop reading. I've used just about everything for a bookmark, loose advertising cards in magazines, facial tissue, ribbon, register receipts and my handmade bookmarks. I use post-its for catalogs and write little notes on the post-it of the item that I'm interested in. I stagger them across the top of the catalog like index tabs.

I like the metal ones and still have one. It's deliciously creative though to make a bookmark. I think it's really cool. :love_heart:

I go to the end of the chapter and then I insert a purchased bookmark with the picture of a cat peeping over the page.

Whatever your choice of bookmark is, don't ever
use paper money in case you give the book away
with it still in there.

I always leave a bookmark in any book that I give
away or hand back to the library.

Mike.

Here is one of my bookmarks, it is also my business
card, nobody throws my card away.
