One of the more delightful arguments I've had in department stores was one with a bright young thing over a cent. Mum asked how much some trinket was and I told her "8 bucks". B.Y.Thing interrupted to inform me, in all seriousness, that it was only $7.99.
The next few minutes were spent explaining to her that since 1 cent is not legal currency, and one and 2 cent coins had been withdrawn from circulation, the item would cost $8 at the checkout. She totally missed the silliness of it all and I'm sure to this day she thinks I must have been too stupid to read the price tag.
There has since been legislation passed to stop them listing 'impossible' prices. But not those like that Wal-mart one.
