My lovely friend "Pearl" will be 100 years old next Saturday and she has received a lovely card from the present King and his wife signed by both of them.
She must be one of the first to have received something like that since he became King.
"Pearl" was a Land Army Girl during WW2 and we have been friends for well over 60 years although as different in character as chalk and cheese but we both have a sense of humour which helps to keep us together.
She was a very talented person and her sketching and paintings were brilliant for her age.
Her knitting and needlework too, was exceptional.
I use the past tense by saying was because her hands are not steady enough now to do fine work but she can still read so I have bought a 100year old newspaper that was printed on the day she was born, for her birthday present so that she can look back to see what life was like then.
When I was getting my WW2 website together I was after stories from all who went through that time including veterans from worldwide and "Pearl" sent me hers of how she started as a Land Army Girl. If anyone is interested I will put the pointer on here.
I am hoping the photo will show up of her at the National Memorial Arboretum taken standing next to the sculptor of a Land Army Girl before the covid bug hit the world.
It has been an honour to have had "Pearl" aboard my train of life and to me she is a star.
