Black Friday is on the way!

I plan to be outside of Best Buy in my little tent and sleeping bag this afternoon to be one of the first in early tomorrow. How about you?

Com'on! The bargains are hot!

Actually, the best prices on many items will occur around mid December...once the initial rush is over. Black Friday has become a successful "marketing tool" that quite often fails to offer the best deals.

I don't think we do "Black Friday" here on the Islands. Way too laid back for all that $%@##.

I went to a 'White Sale' (I think that's what they used to call it) at the Eaton's store about forty years ago and was completely turned off that whole kind of scene, and after that I've avoided those kinds of 'sales' crowds. I think it brings out the ugly in too many people.

Nah, low on funds this year and there's a wicked nip in the air. I'll be in my warm bed, but you find you some bargains there;) There was one time I did the early morning sales thing. It wasn't Black Friday but there was some new electronic geegaw my oldest son wanted. We were lined up around 5am, all these people watching the sun come up and happy to be among the first to own whatever the heck it was.

I don't do Black Friday or very little shopping. My grown family prefers cash or gift cards and shops bargains after Christmas. That is good for me! I can't stand the traffic and crowds.

This story goes way back to the Cabbage Patch Dolls. Every kid wanted one. Zayre's (a defunct store) was going to sell the dolls at 12 AM on Black Friday. One of the nurses, on the 12-8 AM shift, whom I worked with, called in "sick". She did the coughing and sounding like she wasn't going to make it routine. Well, she was at Zayre's to get a doll. A mob of people rushed some 18 year old stock boy, who was supposed to hand out the dolls. He got scared and began throwing the dolls at the mob. The nurse did this flying leap to grab a doll. A local TV station happened to tape her unbelievable leap. They put it on their news. Then it was picked up by CNN. At that time CNN did a half hour news program, and just repeated it all day long. It was a slow news week, so CNN lead every half hour program with her leap for days.

I called out sick today at Walmart. I'll probably be fired for that, but I don't care any more. I'm tired of having holidays ruined and family time taken away from me.

I'm too old for this junk.

Yes, those dolls, I do remember! I could not believe the mobs or the determination of those people. The stampedes into the stores, they would trample anyone not fast enough. I went down to the local Kohls about an hour ago, basically looking for a jacket (for my granddaughter) they had advertised. The checkout line literally wrapped around the entire store! I walked out. They don't have anything in there worth my aggravation to stand in a line that long. I rarely go out on this day ever, ANYWHERE. Think I must have experienced a touch of temporary insanity...I'm good now.

Kohls is worse than even Walmart for long lines. They really need to hire more cashiers. I refuse to shop there during the holidays.

I went to Barnes and Noble. They were crowded enough to be fun. Bought a few things.

That was it. Traffic was not as bad as I thought.
