Tomorrow debuts Blair Witch, a sequel to the cult classic horror flick The Blair Witch Project which terrified audiences so much back in 1999. Judging from adverts and trailers, this latest installment seems to be nothing more than your routine teen horror flick with lots of good looking girls screaming and bleeding and not much of a plot.

The original Blair Witch Project was terrifying in its simplicity, three film students travel to Maryland in search of the legendary Blair Witch. After gathering information from the locals they head for the woods where strange things begin to happen to them. They run out of food, they get lost, and someone or something keeps hanging stickmen figures from the trees all around them. There is no blood, until the very last scene. The horror is the psychological distress of watching these three young people completely unravel. Before they disappear.

I'm not going to see Blair Witch 2016, but I might watch The Blair Witch Project again just for the thrill of remembering what it was like to be scared gutless by the mere thought of a walk in the woods.

One would think the reason to do a remake is to improve, but I can't think of any remake that was as good as, let alone better than, the original. Seems they are so bereft of ideas, unfortunately.

I tried to watch the Blair Witch Project when it first came out, but I just can't stand the "jumpy" style of cinematography. It makes me disoriented and gives me a headache. Unfortunately, there are so many movies being filmed that way these days....either the "jumpy" style or the style that rapidly cuts from scene to scene.

I like long scenes where you get a chance to see what's going on.

I also got a terrible headache from watching the movie and a bit sick to my stomach. I spent quite a bit of time looking away from the screen. Had I been alone I probably would have left. I read later that many people had the same thing happen to them.

I enjoyed the original movie and usually end up watching it around Halloween time. I won't go to a theater to watch this remake though. Might watch it someday down the line if it ever shows up on Netflix or Prime. Good topic in a couple of weeks might be what are everyone's favorite movies to watch around Halloween time.
