Blood Pressure Meds, Anything I Should Watch Out For?

I've just started taking Losartan. Are there any side effects? I'm just nervous about taking new stuff. Also I remember my Mom having whatever problems with dose and all. Then again that was the 1970's and I'm sure meds have changed. Plus she yoyo dieted her whole life and hated exercise. I don't diet and barely sit down during the day, very different lifestyles.

Oy that my BP goes up worrying about my BP:p
 

If you experience unusual side effects go back to your doctor and talk about it. My first BP med gave me an irritating cough that was worse when I lay down to sleep. Medication changed, cough gone, BP under control.
 
I am guessing they start you on a low dose and will titrate. I always check side effects but do not dwell on it--they must list them all. The main thing is if it brings down your BP to where your doc is satisfied.

There are several classes of these drugs. I am actually on two different ones. One, a beta blocker, was given to my sister and she said it made her tired. It has not affected me that way.

This would be my suggestion---take it the same time each day. (approx) Do not skip a dose or stop taking it without first consulting your doctor. It may take a little time for your body to adjust but any serious side effects, let your doctor know. I don't think you should be nervous about taking it. I have a lot of problems with meds I cannot take but these drugs have not been a problem. From time to time, I have needed adjustments but that was over a period of years. Once your doc has you "zeroed in" you should not even notice anything.

Standing up, or straightening up. Keep close to something you can grab as you can get very dizzy for thirty seconds or so.

Keep plenty of plasters as even minor wound will bleed a lot.
 
Been taking Lisinopril for years. It the generic equivalent of Losartran I believe. The dosage has been increased with age. I have found that the best BP med is a good martini; it can drop my BP by forty points within an hour and the side effects are very pleasant! ��

Yes, some can have that effect on you. I take two different class drugs and rarely do I experience that but I remember my husband used to. Once he landed on the floor!
 
I've been taking Losartan, etc., for approx. 15 years. No side effects. Also started taking Metoprolol (beta blocker) after the quad bypass in '13. Nothing from that either.
 
I too take a 50mg Losartan daily, had taken Lisinopril for a few years until I mentioned I had this nagging cough. Dr. changed it after that. On a msn.com a few times is listed the most dangerous medications you can take, Losartan is always listed at #50. I've had no side effects or problems. My BP is below 70/120 consistently. A nurse told me to take it before bed & eat a little protein after, somehow it works better so she said.
 
One Beta Blocker for me had me in a constant state of giddiness.

Moved over to a calcium channel blocker and no problems at all.

Sometimes you just have to take note of what you're taking, any adverse effects and advise your doctor about them.
