Bob Dylan wins the Nobel prize for literature!?

I laughed when I heard this as who would think that a songwriter could or would win. I liked his early stuff and realize that he chronicled the culture of his time, but really, the Nobel? I think not, there are so many others that had to be passed over who were more worthy...

Not sure that his songs are really great poetry, but what about the writing of other forms of literature?

Great troubadour modeling himself after Guthrie and Seeger, but not a great poet...

It's all in the eye of the beholder. I love some of the things he wrote and consider them genius, but not everything he wrote, and that's true for many of the poets and writers I admire. His award was for "having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition," which sounds pretty accurate to me. I wouldn't have thought of nominating Dylan this year, but I think it's well deserved.

Who would you have nominated for Literature this year?

He wrote for a lot of people. He represented an era. Deserving? I think so. Others more deserving? I'm not the judge, like many other art forms, it's in the eyes of the beholder.

I think it's well deserved too Bluebreezes, big fan of Dylan back in the 60s and always liked his work.
