I'm reading "The Colony" a strange and compelling book by Annika Norlin, who is Swedish. I highly recommend it. No action, horror or suspense so maybe others won't find it as compelling as I do. I'm almost done and I heard somewhere that the ending is "unsatisfying." I'll keep you posted.

Crimson by Gord Rollo. I'm about to reread this. A book about teenagers who unleash unspeakable evil. A killer so evil Satan kicks him out of hell. If you like blood and guts, this is it.

I don't like blood and guts at all.
I'm reading the new book by the Nigerian writer Adichie, about 4 Nigerian women, 3 of whom live in the US. Titled Dream Count. I love it.

I read all the time. These are just a few books that I have read and liked. These books may not be your cup of tea but I have enjoyed them. :giggle:

Excellent book from the beginning.

Taken from Penguin Books
In a lonely village in the Peak District, during the onset of a once-in-a-lifetime snow storm, Constable Ellie Cheetham finds a body.
The man, a local ne'er-do-well, appears to have died in a tragic accident: he drank too much and froze to death.
But the facts don't add up: the dead man is clutching a knife in one hand, and there's evidence he was hiding from someone.
Someone who watched him die. Stranger still, an odd mark has been drawn onto a stone beside his body.
The next victims are two families on the outskirts of town.
As the storm rises and the body count grows, Ellie realises she has a terrifying problem on her hands: someone – or some thing – is killing indiscriminately, attacking in the darkness and using the storm for cover.
The killer is circling ever closer to the village. The storm's getting worse... and the power's just gone out.

9/10 from me

The Last Escape by Kristrin Hannah

Story of a couple and their daughter trying to homestead in a very remost part of Alaska. The man is Veitnam Vet....very good just finished it.
Warning: This is a story about a battered woman. I'm saying this bc I simply cannot read such stories anymore, and had no idea this book would include it, or I would never have gotten so into it I had to see it through to the end.

I understand your thinking and agree. I did the same as you: had to finish it. It is so much more than a story about a battered woman; the man was a Nam vet and very damaged by that. There are lots of parrell stories in this book, and I thought the ending was a little too fairytale and soft.
