Books! How do you read and what do you read?

I am a huge Amazon customer. I've joined their Kindle Unlimited program, and found numerous interesting Kindle books that I can read for free.

My interests include Non-Fiction, Historical, True Crime, Sci-Fi, horror etc. I finished my last book in two days.

I've read all of Shawn Inmon's Middle Falls Time Travel series. Loved them. John Scalzi's Dispatcher series, a few books by Robert Charles Wilson. These are scifi books that I enjoyed.

Read lots of mysteries: M A Comley, Karin Slaughter, James Patterson, Nicole Trope, Freida McFadden, Melinda Leigh, John Grisham, Linda Castillo, Rachel Abbott, David Baldacci, Harlan Coben. These are authors I like and whose books I have read fairly recently. I have a really long list of mystery/thriller authors I like. I read whatever they write.

I really enjoyed The Good Luck Girls of Shipwreck Lane, by Kelly Harms. I enjoy her books very much.

I read a lot of books, and right now I read a mystery, then general fiction, then nonfiction, in rotation. That way I read books other than thrillers.

I read with a Kindle which I find far superior to paper. My favorite was the Lee Child, Jack Reacher series of about 25 books. When another author began to participate in the series I frankly lost interest and moved on to other thriller authors.

I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited from time to time. I have discovered a lot of authors whose books I really like.

Sophie’s Choice ….. An interesting read but it is not for anyone easily depressed. Contains a lot of the horror of the holocaust.
Good to know. I've read a fair amount of WWII historical fiction and am well aware of the holocaust horrors, but find vivid depictions in movies and books so distressing that I avoid them or skip over those parts.

Appreciate the warning, HB.

Last night, I fiinished reading' The Last Trial by Scott Turow, defense atty, Sandy Stein was defending his friend, Dr Kiril ,a Noble Prize winning scientist accused of insider trading, fraud, murder. It involved a break through cancer drug that had been approved by FDA,but 12 patients had died taking it
I enjoyed the book, just too long at 420 pgs.

Finished this one about 10 days ago.

The Chancellor: The Remarkable Odyssey Of Angela Merkel by Kati Marton

The author who is Hungarian-American was married to two accomplished men.
The late Peter Jennings: ABC Evening News anchor and the late Richard Holbrooke: American diplomat.

I've always admired Merkel but only knew what highlights made the news. She's a scientist who became leader of
Germany. The book chronicles her early life in East Germany which was controlled by the Staci. After the Wall came
down, she took a detour into politics and the rest is history. To me, she always came across as a no nonsense person.

BATTLE OF INK AND ICE by Darrell Hartman

A story of news barons, North Pole explorers, and the making of modern media.

"In the fall of 1909, a pair of bitter contests captured the world's attention. The American explorers Robert Peary and Frederick Cook both claim to have discovered the North Pole sparking a vicious feud that was unprecedented in international scientific and geographic circles. At the same time, the rivalry between two powerful New York City newspapers [New York Herald and New York Times] fanned the flames of the so-called controversy ..."

Just finished The Overlooked Americans - The Resilience Of Our Rural Towns And What It Means For Our Country. Published 2023. By Elizabeth Currid-Halkett.

A data filled book with a lot of food for thought. I would recommend it for anyone who thinks they understand rural America.

HAVE YOU SEEN HER by Catherine McKenzie

Hard to describe the story.
Its a love, hate story with lots of mystery thrown in to the mix.

After I finished it,, realized I should start the book all over again,, I missed a key to the story.

Anyone else that reads its ,,please post your thoughts.

Is a fabulous read, the story for which I’ve been pining, even as I labored through lesser writing in other books (or threw them across the room in frustration).

I will be reading more if this author’s work
