Boston and New Jersey raising public transit fares ALOT to stadiums with World Cup Games

Both Boston and New Jersey are raising the fares for public transportation/ the trains and/or buses that go to the stadiums with World Cup games in some case more than quadrupling the normal fares. Boston is raising a $20 fare to $80 and New Jersey Transit is raising their fare to $100. Philadelphia said it won't raise prices during the World Cup

These mega events make mega money for the sponsors but do put a strain on local communities and resources. Who should pay-the transportation providers or the World Cup organization? This should've been worked out before giving these cities the games. Poor planning on both. Not everyone can afford to be gouged even if a once in a lifetime trip. This won't help future tourist business for these cities either.

My state used to impose special tourist taxes on things like hotels. I don't know if they still do.
In my opinion, no group other than lawbreakers and foreigners (unless they are taxpayers) should be singled out for this kind of punishment.
As things are, I understand that illegal discrimination applies only to race, gender, religion, age, or disability.

I think that is a bad idea to gouge people. I don’t think nearly as many people are going to come from other countries as would have previously come because they’re going to be worried about being able to get in and out of the country and not being picked up by our government. Plus many countries are mad at us for good reason.

I think you're correct on all the points you made ^ .

IMO cities should charge enough to cover costs and hope that the additional tourist trade will ripple through the local economy boosting sales at local businesses, hotels, restaurants, etc…

Each time those dollars change hands between tourists and local businesses or employees of businesses, etc…they generate additional sales tax revenue.

Better to try and make a dollar off a hundred transactions than a hundred dollars off a single transaction.

Looks like the high prices are going to stay in New Jersey anyway. And they will have to deal with layered or several security check points as a ticketed world cup rider. They will charge $150 for a round trip ticket and the rider will be issued wristbands. They are only accounting for 40,000 fans taking the trains which is about half the seating capacity of MetLife Stadium.

World Cup fans face $150 train tickets to NJ games, regular riders get service cuts

Some are taking shuttle buses and some are parking miles away in some cases over $200 a spot.

Officials say they are recouping their costs. The World Cup people/FIFA are complaining the original deal signed in 2018 required free transportation to games. Who ever agreed to that should never hold public office again. And probably could be a suspect on of FIFAs corruption scandals.

And in NYC won't be able to use Penn Station on game days
