Boston showed some sanity not falling into the build me a stadium at the tax payers expense trap by giving up on the 2024 Olympic Games bid.

Los Angeles might throw in a bid for the US.

Just a reminder of what the Olympics are all about: money. They're might not be professional sports team owners involved but it's about money at the host cities expense ie the tax payers.

And used Olympic venues tend not to age well, especially if not used for anything else. Probably couldn't even sell some of these on ebay.

I had read an article a while back about how pathetic many of these former Olympic cities are - a shame, really. And the amount of money wasted during these events is terrible.

Besides differing views on funding was type of Olympics, compact/all events walkable or events spread out through out the city & state. Also the Olympics themselves have certain requirements which can drive costs.

Also Japan who has Olympics experience had to scrap a 2 BILLION dollar stadium plan for the 2020 Olympics. They got buyer's remorse and will go economy class.

Note, never let someone play with a big budget. The original Japanese architect plans were 750 million dollars over budget/ the original plans.

Lived in Boston most of my life and I couldn't see a Olympic being held there, they don't have what it takes to have one.$$$$$$$$ and lots of it.
Good for the mayor having some common sense.

Olympic BID only is nice work if you know someone

Apparently preparing and lobbying for an Olympic host city bid is nice work if you can get it.

http://www.bostonherald.com/news_op...l_patrick_gets_the_gold_7500_a_day_for_boston

Includes 6 staffers making over 100,000 dollars a year and an ex governor getting $7,500 a day anytime he worked on it. I thought that's what a city chamber of commerce was for.

Probably typical political hires ie who you know.

not falling into the build me a stadium at the tax payers expense trap

In the late 1990s-early 2000 at my job I had contact with a sports attorney who was involved in proposals to build stadiums. The BS this guy tossed out was incredible, as was his shirt-chasing. (He actually became quite successful and rich…oh, well).
