Botched surgery, misdiagnosis anyone?

Lastnight, I was awake until 5 a.m. even after taking 2 tylenol PM at 9, and another at 1 (so 2 total). The pain around my pacemaker incision began hurting about 8 pm.

Some of you know I've had complications from the surgery on the 10th of July. Something is not right, it feels that the pain is coming directly from the incision/pacemaker. Right now, it is not hurting. I made 3 calls to cardios in Roseburg, and new Internal Medicine doc in Coos Bay where I have to live for now. If the pain comes I am to go to emergency, again, other then that, I am scheduled for appt 1:30 with new IM doc.

I called a lawyer so hope to hear back, something, again, is not right about the surgery. I have NEVER in my life had any treatment that I believed to be malpractice and I am not saying that is what is going on, but I've had this surgery 2 times before, and simply zero complications. It's like "what the hell" is going on. So going to cover my bases, continue with the "tests" etc., and pray to god I don't have to have this bitch redone.

Anyone have experience with a surgery gone bad? You are welcome to pm me if you don't want to talk in public about it. I'm also going to tell the lawyer about what happened to me in the hospital when strange guy kept coming in my room and I eventually locked myself in the bathroom. This is total bullshit, I need to fight back, not just say "oh that's ok you're only human" and you didn't mean to ruin my quality of life.

I'm not getting a lawyer, yet. I just want a consultation because if there is something wrong here, I want to keep clear records, or have clear records. Asking a lawyer may be helpful or maybe not, I've never done it so I'll see what they have to say about this sort of thing.

Hope you get it resolved Nwlady, there are many cases of botched surgeries, instruments left in the patient, etc. Here info about pacemakers, was reading pages 5 and 6, seems like there can be problems. This stuff is over my head, I'm not familiar with pacemakers at all. They mention on one something about a lead, and pain caused when twisting the torso. http://cdn.intechopen.com/pdfs-wm/19403.pdf Just keep in mind, reading this kind of stuff online can drive you crazy, better to see the doc and insist on answers. Good luck....hugs.

Thank SB,

The biggest problem I recall in the "first" implant, and the doc was kind enough to explain in depth, was the implanting itself. What I mean is, finding a place to lodge the pm under the skin. The docs try to find an area where they can sort of tuck it in, or a sort of pocket. This time, it almost seems like the pm is trying to work it's way out of my skin, and I wonder if that is what is causing the problem. I have a doc appt Monday, with an Internal Med doc, then he will refer me on to a cardio here in Coos Bay. If I start getting into too much pain this weekend, I have to go to emergency, which I will avoid if possible because all they do is put me through all those tests, again, and send me home with pain pills. Which yes, it's a temp fix, but I so want to get to the bottom of this including the "still unsolved" mystery of the shortness of breath and dizziness.

thank you for the link;) hugs, denise

Thanks Pappy;)

I know I am like a spoiled child lots of times, I expect to be in perfect health, and I expect docs to be perfect, or other alternative medicines to work perfectly as well. I think as I grow older, and am bound to run into more issues over the years, I will get less whiney about it. It's just the transition between being really healthy, to not so healthy that, as many of you know to well, is hard to adjust to and accept, big hugs my Florida buddy;)

Hi Denise,
You should NOT be having a post op pain because of a pacemaker...maybe some discomfort for a bit, but that's it....keep after them...go to the 'customer service' part of the hospital, if necessary, and if you don't get a satisfactory answer, talk to THEM about it....I am not sure what the real title is: but you know what I mean by customer service. :)

Probably Patient Services? I had them come in and talk to me after that episode with the strange guy that kept coming in my hospital room. The nurses couldn't keep him out and they didn't call security until the 3 rd time when he wouldn't let the nurse in my room, that's when I hid in the bathroom with the door locked, what a trip.

Anyway, no, I know this isn't right because I've been through the same surgery twice before. But Monday is my step towards a new Cardio, due to having to move in with my sister in another city. It will get straightened out I'm sure;) Just time, and holding me back on some plans I had for job search etc. hugs, denise
