Bowing out for a bit

Hi all-- I am fairly new, but I need to bow out for a bit. I have noticed that my stomach is feeling a little achey sometimes after reading some of the threads and it reminds me of my two days on Facebook (that's all I could take there). Most everyone here is wonderful, but there seem to be a few who don't like Americans (or sometimes it's vice versa) very much, or anyone with a slightly different view, and they find little ways to dig or make veiled or unveiled insults and cause a fight. I have a hard time with stuff like that. I just want a safe haven because life is hard enough without us sniping at each other or being short with each other. It's really only a handful of people who are being nasty, but it's enough to make me go into the background. I hope to be back when I'm feeling better/stronger.
Thanks to those kindly, reasonable people who make a lot of the time here nice :)

Oh that's a real pity Amelia. I know you're new here and I know you've told us you have some issues, so if things are upsetting you then it's important you step away... Thanks for letting us know so we don't look for you, hopefully you'll pop in again once you feel you can.. do take care!

Amelia, I'm so sorry to see this. You have been one of the brighter lights for me recently. I too see what you have cited and those things do make me spend less time here. I could add more but this is your thread and you've shared what you wanted to. I will just say that I will miss you and I hope to see you again. 🤗

@Amelia B , I absolutely agree with @Myrtle , and I've looked forward to your posts as well. So very sorry to see you [apparently] bullied into feeling you need to bow out for a while. It wonders me if it's the same people causing a few of our good posters to leave recently? That would be truly upsetting. I've seen what you mentioned about the "America bashing" by two or three members especially when a couple specific subjects come up and it.... well, let me stop there, I guess. 🤬 (Although like Myrtle said, I could say a lot more.)

I'm sorry to learn about this also, Amelia as I've been enjoying your threads and your company.

You are not alone in your opinions and your feelings about it. It's really very sad as there are, as you say, so many very nice people here. But it's a mix of random people and there's no way to avoid such things, I think. :(

Please come back when/if you can; you seem such a lovely person. ♥

Some people are addicted to the fear and hate type media, and like to share that special kind of mental illness with others.
I don't think that's what she's talking about. At least I didn't see a reference to it in her post.
She's said it's the nastiness and sniping between members that's driving her away.

I agree with you that the best idea is to not engage, although sometimes just seeing such things is upsetting enough.

I've not really noticed this, or at least not so much members from one nation against another, but then again I don't read every thread. For the most part with this type of thing, I see Americans bashing Americans, and Americans bashing America.

But regardless, I hope Amelia B later feels that she can return. I always notice her posts within the threads I read, and take time to read her posts with interest.

Sorry to hear it, and hope you'll be back. Nobody needs an upset stomach.

I agree that most of the folks here are good people. Even the feisty ones I can always seem to find some common ground with and reason to like. But I know others take it a bit more personally. You are a good lady, hope to see you again... soon!

You know, I think, regardless of the country, when a person disparages another country, its people or its traditions, it says more about the speaker than their target.

You bring up an important point. Makes me think of a post where someone summed up a whole nation with just two words. Those words, I thought, being really disrespectful and stereotyping. Which seemed to be based on a lack of knowledge and understanding, and based on limited perspective and biases. Of cause you are right, it says a lot more about the person saying these things than the nation, people or person being described.

Oh that’s such a shame @Amelia B
Can’t you just use the “ Ignore button “
I really enjoyed your posts and threads
🥲
Another one hits the dust !!

😡

Getting to be an epidemic.....
I think people always come and go. It seems to be a trend to notice and comment. I think if a longtime poster leaves that may be cause for concern. Not that people aren't important but it's a forum. People come and go on forums.
Why is a long time poster more important of notice than someone who has only been around for a year or so? Seems to me, its the former causing the exodus.
