Boy! Helping 'people' sure can get complicated...

I stopped helping others when I moved here 5 years ago. A man fell right in front f my apt door and I opened the door and offered to help. One of the people with him old me he 'needed throw pillows' in a nasty voice, which I don't have so I shut the door.
Whoo! 👆coulda been a scam

I am going through that right now. Two people I have helped because they were going through a hard time are now expecting it. It has becoming a burden. I am hoping to feel a little better before I deliver an ultimatum so I am capable of following through.

I lack support so I need to handle things myself.

Sometimes you have to stand your ground or get run over.

No, not a scam. I knew who he was and the people with him. He was mid eighties, very weak but very bossy and mean. In my training as a medic, if the injured is alert you ask permission to treat. That's what I do. He snarled back an anwer and I shut the door.

I help out volunteering and love it. My eyes are opened to all sort of things people have to endure in their lives. Sure stuff can go belly up organising things there, but I guess you're meaning amongst neighbours/friends etc. which I'm more than happy to do.

I've been caught up being 'expected' to do things by one particular neighbour who has now passed away. She suffered with dementia, balance problems and fell regularly.
She used to phone during the night for help when she was adamant someone was breaking in or parties were going in her garden or the owls or foxes were making a noise and she couldn't sleep.
She regularly phoned the police at night too, who always attended and it got to the stage where I was the 'go to person' for them for their information and background of the lady. (She had no relatives).
On occasions she was so bad the emergency doctors were called, cue the ambulance which stayed there sometimes for one and half hours before they either left her at home deeming she ok, or admitted her.

She was a great personality and swore like a trooper :D
