Israeli military is put on full alert, with warplanes scrambled and school trips cancelled - with two drone waves set to arrive in hours as war in the Middle East threatens to spiral out of control

Iran has launched waves of drones to attack Israel that are set to hit within hours, after Israel announced it was closing all schools amid fears of an upcoming attack from the rogue state.

Dozens of drones were seen flying from Iran over neighbouring Iraq's Sulaymaniya province, according to three security sources. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said via state media that it had 'aunched extensive drone strikes against targets in occupied territories.'

Israel said tonight that its airspace was shutting down at 12:30am local time. Iraq also announced it was shutting down its airspace and suspending all air traffic on Saturday.

Iranian media reported that a second wave of drones has been launched, though details of where they currently are aren't yet known.

The IDF's spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, said it would take several hours for the drones to arrive in Israel, adding that sirens would be sounded in threatened areas.

The IDF said: 'The air defence array is on high alert at the same time as the Air Force planes and Navy ships that are on a mission to protect the country’s skies. The IDF is monitoring all targets.

A retired IDF general told Israeli media that the Iranian drones had the capacity to carry up to 44lbs (20kg) of explosives each.

It was reported today that Iran has more than 100 cruise missiles ready to be launched as part of an 'imminent' strike against Israel in retaliation for an airstrike against Iran's embassy in Damascus, Syria.

anyone come across the cristodelphinians [maybe wrong spelling] they talk about the finall armageddon happening in Jerusalem of course between Christ and the anti-christ 666?

Of course. Been warning about it right from the Israeli invasion of Palestine. This will all end in hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people dying. We - the US and the UK - created this mess. We allowed this to happen. We used our own tax dollars to fund it, and continue to do so. Then it's "Breaking News" when the inevitable occurs.

This situation will simply escalate from here.

Iran launches a wave of drone attacks at Israel
I wish I could say that I am surprised.
The Middle East is one huge powder keg waiting to explode.

Iranian drone is pretty doggone close in design to the tactical guided missile I was trained on and assigned to in the U.S. Air Force, 1961-65.

Smaller in overall dimensions, but de je vu all over again for me.

My internet feed is beginning to pick up rumblings of this action. Perhaps thinking was it was a false flag opn. Having to cross Syria airspace to make the strike on Israel brings yet another active player on scene.

I wouldn't say we and the UK created it but we certainly fed the beast.

As for Iran attacking Israel... play stupid games, win stupid prizes. What did Israel think the outcome would be from an attack on the Iran Consulate?

I reckon, that we can expect some of the above in the
not too distant future, Ukraine and Israel are better
equipped to deal with these drones, than we are, our
our forces are so few, we cannot even stop some illegal
immigrants, who arrive in, what looks like home-made
rubber boats, so no chance of stopping an Air Raid.

I hope that I am wrong.

Mike.

Prime Minster Rishi Sunak has confirmed RAF pilots shot down 'a number' of Iranian drones while intercepting the 300-strong strike on Israel last night.

He called for 'calm heads to prevail' and said he wanted to 'pay tribute to the bravery and professionalism of our pilots flying into the face of danger to protect civilians'.

Warplanes based in Iraq and Syria had been deployed to intercept airborne strikes after Tehran announced it had launched an assault yesterday.

The Prime Minister is expected to join other G7 leaders on a call today amid fears of further escalation in the event of a possible Israeli counter-strike.

Speaking to journalists in Downing Street, Mr Sunak said if Iran's attack on Israel been successful 'the fallout for regional stability would be hard to overstate', as he confirmed RAF pilots shot down 'a number of' drones.

It came after Israel levelled a building in east Lebanon and vowed a response to Iran's 300-missile attack - as the Middle East holds its breath amid fears of World War III.

A source within Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah group said Israel struck one of its buildings close to the Syrian border today, as tensions soared after Iran directly attacked Israel.

The source told news agency AFP: 'The Israeli strike targeted an area... near Baalbek and targeted a two-storey building belonging to Hezbollah,' adding that there were no casualties reported.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency also reported that 'an enemy air strike targeted a building' in the village of Nabi Sheet and 'destroyed it'.

The IDF later confirmed the strike on the 'significant weapons manufacturing site' in the Nabi Sheet area.

It comes after Israel said it 'foiled' Iran's unprecedented attack on its country and revealed 120 ballistic missiles along with 200 drones were used.

The strike marks the first time a direct military assault has been launched by Tehran on Israel despite decades enmity dating back to the country's 1979 Islamic Revolution.

RAF aces shot down part of the missile and drone fleet fired at Israel

It all depends on the Israeli response to the Iran confrontation. Iran put itself in a position where it had to respond to Israeli confrontations. Drones are the least lethal weapons that could have been used. Iran has an arsenal full of extremely lethal weapons. Iran responded to supposed Israeli aggression, and if their drones got shot down-so be it. Iran gets credit for responding to the dreaded Israelis, but the response was minimal in destructive ability. Now the question is will Israeli overreact to the provocation?
