Breaking News... That Chinese Spy Balloon. Thoughts?

This is not the first. Apparently one crashed near Hawaii about 4 months ago.

Spying not new. This method maybe not that new but why now.

Also when I saw the video I just saw a collapse balloon being dragged down by the attached equipment. Did they lie and say the destroyed when in fact they shoot the balloon only?

They didn't want to destroy the whole thing. They wanted the information from that lab apparatus attached below, to learn from it, not wreck it.

3 balloons from China entered our territory from the last administration and it was kept secret until now.

The intent was to deflate the balloon , and bring it down into the Atlantic ocean to be recovered by the USN. You can be sure the equipment is being carefully examined by scientists to discover what capabilities it has. I will say this..The USA does not have the "moral high ground " in this affair, given how long it has been spying on countries around the world, going back to the early 1950's with the U2 spy plane flights over Russia. JImB.

With All the reports of previous balloons I wonder if the delay In shooting this one down was political. The daily photos and stories in the news had to be an embarrassment for China and must have increased the negative view of China by the American public. That public understanding of China as an adversary will no doubt make a ban of Tik Toc easier to swallow and increase public support of US defense of Taiwan in the almost certain event of a Chinese invasion,

BTW I was shopping in a Target store yesterday when this guy my age walks up to me and out of the blue shouts “The balloon isn’t Chinese!”. I strongly disagreed, which really got him excited. Huh?

I also read that the president ordered the balloon to be shot down asap and he may well have, however, the shoot down order would not come from the president, although he would have to sign off on it, the order of the shoot down, could have come from a couple different Officers. I’m not sure what the chain of command is now, but previously, Senior Officials would give the order. That particular person or persons is never named for obvious reasons.
Not sure I agree with that. As commander in chief, a head of state (president) is the supreme command of a country's armed forces, I would say if the president gives the orders, the officers better follow through.

I believe that parts of the balloon have been recovered by the military and have been sent to labs for analysis. The we do not have it story is just a cover so they will not have the typical media and civilian responses of. What is it? Tell me! Tell me!

According the former Intelligence director, John Ratcliff and Mike Pompeo, the former CIA director,
there were no "weather balloons" from China during the last administration over the continental U.S.
That story has been refuted.
Even if it were true, the nuclear buildup in Communist China recently, and the tension between our two countries has
accelerated dramatically since then.

Don't think we will get the real story on the effects of this. China now has precision photos of our bases, our nuclear
facilities.

There isn't a lot of moral high ground to take in matters of national security, especially for countries that have wealth, valuable resources, desirable real estate, and/or a geopolitically coveted location.

Plus recent rumblings about a rare window of opportunity for the CCP to invade Taiwan that's right around the corner.

China already knows quite a bit about the location and layout of our bases and nuclear facilities, but it's likely they were looking for any new additions or changes. We have pictures of theirs, too. For example, we know they've recently installed a few hundred new nuke silos in northeastern China. And we know they built what appears to be two concentration camps in the Xinjiang region, presumably for their Uighur Muslim population.

That General, is looking at what looks like the Roswell wreckage,
was that a Chinese balloon too?

Mike.
Yes, it's the Roswell wreckage.

"was that a Chinese balloon too?" :ROFLMAO:

No but it stirred up even more panic and even crazier buzz. We'll get over the Chinese balloon within months, if not weeks. Seems Roswell will be with us forever. That's actually kind of fun, though, especially in Roswell and the smaller cities around it. You can probably imagine the kind of tourist souvenirs you can find there. :alien:

It goes kind of like this:

Sr Officer: We recommend shooting it down. Do we have your permission?
Prez: Yes, shoot it down immediately.
Sr Officer: Yes, sir, however, we advise waiting until (whatever time) when it is (in whatever position or location).
Prez: Well, you have my permission to do so.

Something like that.

Oh, I go to Roswell quite often. There are little green men all over the place!

@Been There - Very similar conversations took place on 9-11, when other passenger planes had gone off-course after the first 2 targets were hit.

A "domain awareness gap." Really? Wonder what mental midget came up with that? Not very re-assuring considering the millions, yeah, billions, in defense dollars the tax-paying citizen fronts.

Considering the size of the downed SvB, it is fully capable of carrying a nuclear EMP device. Undetectable, appartently. Use of which will cripple our fragile and overloaded infrastructure grid. Come on people in DoD. Get it together.

[ EDIT: Time to re-establish the AWS (Aircraft Warning Service, circa WWII?} Still remember seeing my parents silhouette papers on identifying enemy aircraft up in the attic back in the 1950s. Back then, a lot of eyes were on the skies. Perhaps that is needed again? ]

There is a big yellow balloon appearing in our skies
occasionally, somebody tells me it is called a sun,
the sky also keeps changing from its normal "concrete
block grey" colour, to a very pale blue, but it is cold.

Mike.
