Bring them back?......who took them?

I tried one, but it kept burning my tongue , and then all that is involved, constantly cleaning, carrying tobacco, the cleaner, etc, etc. I just gave it up. Went cigar for a-bit as well...then..gave them up too.

Liked the taste & aroma of both , but now I just choose to not smoke anything.

I've always liked the smell of a good pipe tobacco! Yes, though, smoking outside is a good idea too~

I agree with Ruthanne, Pipe tobacco smells wonderful. My Uncle smoked one called Half and Half. My Dad smoked Union Leader. I still have many of the cans he saved full of nuts, screws and such. He made shelves under the cellar steps and had them neatly lined up and labeled. I also had an Uncle who had to have quite an area of his lower lip removed from cancer caused by where the pipe rested. Smoking of any sort just isn't a good idea.

I have a pipe and smoked cannabis in it, but I didn't inhale. I outgrew that, now its Prince Albert while enjoying a PBR. If the laws keep changing I might try some cannabis for medical purposes only. :lofl:

Not keen on pipes personally but anything has to be better than an e cig, give me a man with a Capstan Full Strength any day !

My stepfather smoked Middleton's Cherry Blend and I always associate that smell with him and his workshop out in the old garage.

I never had a pipe smoker in my family, but from the little I've smelled out in public, I don't care for the odor of pipe tobacco. I think a lot of men still smoke pipes, I don't think they went away either. Smoking anything has a calming effect, I imagine the worst thing to smoke are cigarettes....so pipe, cigar, etc. is the better option regarding health.

I just waked past a man smoking a pipe yesterday outside of Safeway. There is a bus stop on the side of the store that I walk past to get to my car. It smelled sooooo good, but yeah, can`t say smoking anything is good for you. The doctor that I went to during my first pregnancy (50 years ago) was a pipesmoker and had his pipe in his mouth as he examined me-all the while singing "And here`s to you,Mrs. Robinson"...so funny to think that a doc would actually smoke in an exam room-but they DID back then!

I did smoke a pipe in my youth. To get a nicotine fix, a cigarette was way better. Some people loved the smell of the tobacco, and again some hated it. Since I gave it up, it didn't fulfill my needs. It is ingesting a cancer causing drug.

Ahh, pipes. I smoked them in my 20’s and 30’s. I loved my pipes and still have them in a box in my closet. But, I gave them up when I could begin feeling it in my lungs after smoking.

Pipe smoking is relaxing. For one thing it’s much more involved than grabbing a cigarette or cigar. So, it’s best if you're not in a hurry. The tobacco has to be packed right and smoked slow or it will burn your tongue. It takes some practice. There are books on how to use and care for pipes, and at one time even classes.

Pipe tobacco is usually flavored with things like vanilla or chocolate, and can smell really nice. Some can be kind of overpowering, like Mixture 79, and some can smell pretty foul, like London Dock, which smells like its name. There used to be a great variety, and it was fun sampling them. I loved the smell of the tobacconist’s shop.

Pipes and pipe tobacco are fairly expensive, so they are usually cared for and used carefully. Tobacco needs to have the correct moisture content to burn well, so it is stored either sealed or in a moisture controlled humidor. Pipes need to be kept clean or they will sour, and the bowls occasionally reamed to remove built up cake.

I still miss smoking. A while back I bought a bit of tobacco on the internet and tried it again. But, my lungs can’t handle it, even though I don’t inhale. Any smoke chokes me up now.

This dates me, but living on farm as a kid, we took a corn cob, cleaned out the center and drilled a hole in the side, took a hollow twig and stuck in hole, got some dry corn silk and smoked it. They still sell corn cob pipes, I have one. lol

General Douglas MacArthur famously smoked a corn cob pipe during WW2.

I started with a corn cob pipe and Cherry Blend, at 14. Bought a number of expensive pipes, after that, and tried custom blended tobaccos. When I started driving a cab, to get through college, I discovered cigars, since pipes needed more attention, and driving around Chicago required my full attention. At around fifty, I found that smoking tobacco was starting to give me canker sores, and I knew where that could lead. I quit, cold turkey. Since I only smoked, on average, maybe, once every week, or so, from the time I was a kid, quitting was no big deal.

The corn silk smoked hot, but we would smoke them untill our mouth inside was almost raw.. Another trick later was to strip cigarettes and save tobacco in a empty match box then roll a cigarette when we got enough tobacco. I don't know how we survived our youth, but me or my brother never took up smoking (tobacco) as we got older, still don't as a habbit.

lol..I had several pipes, a tobacco humidor, pipe stand, etc, but never inhaled and never had a tobacco habit, just liked the smell. i always wanted one carved out of meerschaum, but too tight to buy one. I only smoke outside now at the request of Sweetie. (she is the secretary of war around here.)....:eek:nthego:
