British Comedy Shows

Started watching Season one of "Allo Allo" last night and could not stop laughing. Different type of comedy than what is on this side of the pond. Maybe it's the facial expressions or something else but I love that show.

While the show's theme is ridiculous it comes off as making the show more funny. Note there is quite a few seasons so wonder if it stays just as much fun down the line. So many comedies this side of the pond only last a season or two.

What other shows can you recommend?

Great lists here, I also like:

Yes minister,
Black Ader,
Monty Python,
And sometimes Benny Hill, though I am not sure they are really speaking English a lot of the time, not a version I know anyway...
All of these shows are ancient... some good some downright terrible..but Benny Hill?.. wow that's going back almost 50 years... When I was courting my first husband, my DD's father .. ( my dd is 45 years old now)... he would never come out on a Wednesday night because he loved Benny Hill show.. ( I hated it, BH was repulsive to me ).. but nothing would stop him, my then boyfriend from not watching that show, and he was only 19

I always have to turn on the subtitles.

My best friends are English. He’s very clear, she isn’t. They’ve been in Canada for over 40 years.

Some of those 'Steptoes' are available on YouTube (in colour too) now, I'v'e just watched one.

Jules, I have to turn on the subtitles for everything now, because the people who make the programs seem to think loud background music is essential to making the shows better, I think this practice is a real nuisance.
:)

Loved To the Manor Born and Good Neighbors, both with Penelope Keith. Felicity Kendall was in Good Neighbors and we saw he live in a show in London.
