Broadband comes out of water tap.

The tiny island of Papa Westray - usually known for being one end of the world's shortest scheduled flight, is in the news again for receiving broadband through water pipes. Until recently the internet for the 90 inhabitants was slow or non existent, but using the island's fresh water pipes, fibre cable was installed to the residents homes. The broadband signal is transmitted from the nearby island of Westray and then distributed via the water system. This has meant that no excavation was necessary, and as the water network is owned by the island community, no additional cost was involved.

Here on the mainland, rural internet is powered by broken promises and speeds of a geriatric snail.

There was a big radar dome in the middle of the soybean field behind our house when I was a kid. It had one of those thingies inside that spun around.

I couldn't get near it because everytime that thingy would point in my direction, it would cause my dental braces to vibrate and it HURT.

I was so disappointed that I couldn't pick up radio on my braces. It would have been nice to just sit there with my mouth closed and nod away to the music. And if I opened my mouth, we would have music to dance to.....

I always wondered what a "Pipe Dream", was, now I know!
