So, I was broiling my red bells, and I noticed a light on in my oven. (i had the door closed) Took a closer look, and the element had a little flame burning on it. Ut oh....I turned off the broiler.

Now, what do I do? Do I need a new broiler element...is that what it's called?

There's an appliance store a few miles away where I can get another, if I can remove it.

You did the right thing, Dob.

I have personal experience with this. Yes, I would say 99% you need a new broiler element.

Mine shot sparks and flame out. When hubby arrived home from work, he ran down to the appliance shop, bought a new element, unplugged the stove, undid two screws in the back that held the element in place, swapped out the old for new, plugged the stove back in, and I was back in business.

Please be sure to unplug the stove before tackling.

They basically just plug in but it depends how old the stove is.

That said, if there was a bit of food on it, it could have caught fire.

I don't think there was any food on it. They were low enough as to not hit the element. Unless, I did it at an earlier time.

This oven, they're double ovens, are original to the house. So, they've been w/me since 1969!

I'll prob have my handyman fix it, I don't mess around w/that stuff.
