Broken rafters/beams in my attic, what now?

So, we had a home inspector up in the attic, np. We had the electrician up in the attic, np. We had the plumber up in the attic, np. HVAC up in the attic, np. I suppose they are all blind. My son goes up there today to clean out everything he can get hold of.

He looks around, looks up, mom, he yells, there are broken beams, or rafters, or whatever they are called up here. I don’t know if they are load bearing. I do, we never catch a break. They must be load bearing. He sends us a picture. Yup. They are. Broken. Yup, my husband just had to have another house.

I already have a roofer coming on Monday to repair the flanger thingies on the outside of the roof, and maybe add ventilation because there is only one ventilation vent at the end of the house. I presume a roofer replaces these broken inside rafters thingies.

Kill me, just kill me now. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Where did I put those cupcakes? 😂

I think you may need a contractor, not a roofer. Anything structural should NOT be done by a roofer.
It depends on the roofing company. I choose a company that does do this kind of repair work with master carpenters and does actually build roofs on both residential and industrial buildings. There are only three of these companies in my area and this one had the most reviews. They were good reviews.

I hope they are not weight bearing, but are rafters instead of beams. Rafters and be replaced by anyone, including my son. The instructions are on google and I’ve seen it done on dyi programs. But, due to my sons heart condition I would not let him do this. But he wants too.

I let him empty the attic because he could sit on the side of the entrance, pull the stuff to him, and toss it down. You actually don’t have to remove the broken rafter, you can put the new one in right next to it. Beams, sadly, are a different story. But, I should know tomorrow.
