When my daughters were little and just on the verge of walking, I was convinced they had to have that exact style of shoe because a fellow new mom had told me that ankle support is crucial. (It didn't occur to me, in my new-mom worry, that humans for millenia learned how to walk perfectly well without any shoes at all.)
Mine were not.. but I wanted to bronze my daughters' first proper leather shoes that she got once she started to walk steady on her feet at around 18 months...
We had little money and because I'd had gone without shoes as a child I was determined that she would have the best I could afford...
I bought her first little shoes in debenhams and they were expensive for the time.... and I still have those little shoes today that she learned to properly walk in...
I told her a few years ago I would have them bronzed... she was horrified......so I never have.... this is them, I'll be buried with these shoes..lol... cuz she doesn't want them
Her first little leather shoes size 3 ...now they're 49 years old
The irony is I had shoes as a toddler and good shoes by the look of the 2 or 3 photos I have of me as a 2 or 3 years od.. similar to my daughters' first shows and also some goood leather sandals .. it was after my mother continued to have more children that the money ran out. and then shoes and everything else were a problem for us....
I remember seeing my white baby shoes when I was very young. I don't think they were bronzed, if they were, I don't know where they went. Another thing I haven't thought about in a life time.
When I was in high school I took an old pair of my loafers and spray painted them bronze. I gave them to my Mom as a joke. Surprisingly, she kept them.
Yes, I have the bronzed shoes and the framed picture. They sat on the TV in my mom's family room for as long as I can remember. Since she passed away, they have been on the media console in my living room. I dust them every so often and think about how cute I was and wonder what the hell happened.
