Bryan Kohberger pleads guilty to Idaho student murders

I read that both the defense and the prosecution worked out a deal, and even though the families are not as happy about it , I think it is the best thing to do.
He will plead guilty, and hopefully also have to explain why he did such a terrible crime in the first place, and will have 4 life sentences with no chance at ever getting parole.

The people who survived the attack do not have to go to court and relive it again, and Kohberger can’t make years and years of appeals, keeping the case at the forefront of their lives forever.
Even if he had the death penalty, he might end up spending his life in prison due to appeals. Idaho has only executed 3 people in the last 30 years, so he might not have a death sentence even if tried and convicted.

And there is always the chance that some how he might not even be found guilty during a trial, which would be the worst thing possible. Over all, even though I think a death penalty case is deserved here, I think that the life in prison is a better choice.
And who knows how long he will even survive once he is put into the prison system ? He might have the same kind of death sentence he gave his victims, once he is in prison.

The guy got his Masters in Criminology doing research asking murderers for details about their crimes and was recommended for the Doctorate program in criminology. He had been praised, by a professor, as a brilliant mind concerning criminal behavior. He had an obsession with the details of why others got caught, but not to become a criminal investigator.

In my opinion, he decided the only thing left for him to do was commit the perfect murder. He wasn't even a suspect for about a month after the investigation started.

I have no problem with the death penalty, when there's absolute proof the SOB did it. I don't see any reason why we have to feed, clothe and care for him for 40-50 years. That said, the legal realities of criminal trials are that anything can happen. Giving Kohberger life without parole and he gives up the right to appeal is a sure thing.

Apparently the the firing squad is still an option in Idaho, and that's what the parents were hoping for. A child rapist murdered a 5 year old boy in my town and was sentenced to life in the Montana State Prison. During a prison riot about 6 months later, he was killed by the other inmates.

According to GMA's legal analyst Dan Abrams, the defense had a shaky case to begin with, plus their last faux pax was claiming that someone else may have done the killings. That being the case, the defense approached the prosecutors about the deal. Also, they wanted to avoid the risk of going to trial then possibly facing appeals if he was convicted and dragging the families through that.

That is how that scum Gary Gilmore was executed, but in Utah.
I remember that. I think it was the first and maybe the only time I knew of a firing squad execution. I didn't know it still existed anywhere in this country anymore. That is until I read the about in Idaho yesterday. The death penalty has gone through an odd evolution, hanging in Montana when I first got there, and then followed by constant more humane methods around the country, none of which seemed more humane. The electric chair sometimes failed on the first try, and some on the second or third try. Lethal injection seemed like the solution, but its seems to be unnecessarily complicated, which makes it more easily botched.

He is supposedly in prison for life with ZERO chance of an appeal.

There’s two ways to look at this and I am on the side that he at least did not get a chance to appeal the death penalty— not that he didn’t deserve a firing squad, which he did.

One can only hope he gets his justice slowly inside the prison walls——-

This may sound heaartless..
Anyone ever see the movie "The Star Chamber" w/Michael Douglas..(check for details)

Maybe there will be a 'sorta' where he's.going to.

Karma!!

My thoughts exactly. We can only hope. Although I was hoping to see him go in front of a firing squad-but that probably wouldn`t have happened in my lifetime.

I will say though, being an Idahoan now, that they don`t mess around here. Most cases are prosecuted very quickly, where in California, where we moved from, takes years and years and years.

The higher the population, the more backlogged the Courts are, hence the essentially of Plea bargains, etc.
