Buying a used repaired computer from Walmart. Good idea or not.

My Dell desktop computer went bad and now I'm thinking about buying another used one from Walmart this time. Good idea or not?

Thanks, Robert59
Not a good idea in my mind unless a very low price. If someone had problem, are you likely to have it as well?

Computers last a long time, so buy quality new and save possible frustration and maybe even money.

Your time is worth much more than saving a bit and getting a used machine.

Walmart is a mass market factory op so expect very uncertain quality and support,

Between old models iPad, Macbook, Lenovo, Dell, chromebooks,

OR used/refurb from mfg outlets, BF, epay, easy to get a greet machine at $150..500.

We have many HP Elitedesk/Prdesk 800 SFF we got for free>>>$100 ea. Just added SSD, OS, years of reliable service.

I have bought re-furbished desktop computers for several
years now and have never regretted any of them, the last
2 were HP models, the one I am using now is very good it
has Quad core processors, 16 gigabyte Memory, 1 Terabyte
Hard drive, can run 32 bit or 64 bit programmes, all for just
over £100.

I don't know how good the ones that Walmart are offering,
but I would think that they are OK, they have a reputation
to think about.

Never consider buying a PC/Laptop, that has a camera, that
is something that is never checked I hear and it might have
taken many pictures, it is one of the few moving parts in any
computer as the lens opens for each shot.

Do a comparison check before you decide.

Mike.

I agree that looking around. Before buying the Walmart one is a good plan. Amazon always has good computers, laptops, and tablets that are completely refurbished, and at a reasonable price, and they come with a guarantee.
Best Buy also sells refurbished computers at reasonable prices, especially when you can find the closeout and open box discounts.

I have noticed that Walmart is starting to sell the refurbished ones, too, and I think that they would have a guarantee like any other walmart item. eBay also has refurbished computers/devices that come with a guarantee (As well as ones that are new or used ones with no guarantee.)
Amazon sells from private retailers , and I think that this is what Walmart is also trying to do to stay in competition with Amazon.

You should do fine getting a refurbished one from any of these places, just shop around for the best price and guarantee.

I was told by a tech guy that refurbished was as good as new, possibly better because at least one weak component was replaced. He said he would never balk at buying refurbished. I think he's probably right, although I still balk when it comes to a big layout. I did buy a refurbished backpack type leaf blower from ebay. I saved about $50, but it didn't work, not a spark or sputter when I tried to start it. I did get a full refund, and return shipping was included. I don't know if that was a 1 in 1 thousand fluke or what. I bought a new leaf blower locally, and I'm pleased with it.

I'm thinking not all "refurbished" is the same. There is "factory refurbished" and "licensed refurbished", and probably just "some guy in a garage refurbished." I don't think there is a consistent standard, but I'm just one guy with one experience, so take this with a grain of salt.

Should you buy a refurbished computer from Walmart?

So, are refurbished computers from Walmart good? In a word, yes. They come with the same warranty as new computers and often include the same software and accessories that were included in the original package. You can save money and get a high-quality computer that will last for years

Reviews in most places are very good.

It is just my opinion, but I would stick with the well-known companies when buying electronics. If you buy from someplace like Walmart or Amazon and it is a lemon, it is easy to return , and will have a good guarantee. It is hard to say about some of the lesser-known companies, and some of them are known to take the money and the item never arrives.
We ordered a treadmill that way once and it was supposed to be shipped but never arrived, and eventually the company said it was lost somehow and they did return my money but it was a slow experience, and i do not recommend taking chances.
