Buying off the internet. Hmmm, what else is changing?

I buy lots of stuff online....but Never clothes or shoes. Most of that is made in Asia, and I swear those people cannot convert their measurement sizes to ours. Just yesterday, I ran across a sale on men's boots, and I usually wear a size 10.5...but when I tried one on, it was Way Too Big. I finally tried on a size 9.5, and it was a perfect fit. I've got shoes and boots ranging anywhere from size 9.5 to 11...according to the tags and labels.

I have noticed over the last decade that some pants are purposely(?) sized a lot larger than what the waist actually is, I guess that is suppose to play on our egos? I first noticed some jeans that were about 2 inches off but more recently I noticed some nylon hiking/fishing pants that must be about 4 inches off. LOL

Boots and shoes are more difficult to properly size because of several factors. One is the curvature of your foot, another is the width at the heel and at your forefoot area, and then there is how your foot fills up on the way to your ankle (it's a 3 dimensional issue). Basically you have to get the sizing and the proper last (I think that is what it is called) for your feet. And I have seen where the break, or where and how the shoe flexes as you walk, doesn't work out quite right. Then you have to hope your two feet are a reasonable match because for some folks they aren't. As a former long distance backpacker I can attest that it isn't easy and like someone pointed out above, once you find a brand/style that works for you, you want to stick with it.

I wear a particular Nike running shoe because it fits me well and gives me good support. I DO by those shoes online, because once I figured out what size I needed in that shoe, they are quite reliably sized and I can get them a LOT cheaper online, particularly if I watch for sales.

I agree with you about the craziness of clothing sizing nowdays, and it drives me nuts. I don't know if men's sizes are as bad, but women's sizes are all over the place, even within the same brands.
