Ca told NOT to charge electric cars this weekend

It seems like the 32 years leading up to the ban on new gas powered vehicles would be more than enough time to upgrade the power grid. 🤔

In any case, I‘ll be too busy celebrating my 100th birthday to worry about it. 🥳

Please try to stock up on some actual facts, rather than the koolaid you've evidently been drinking. Look back through previous posts were informational links have been posted.
Think what you like. I believe the California wackos love to control people. If they thought for one second that they could get away with it, we would all be forced to be vegetarians.
The so called informational posts are merely "HOPEFUL projections".
In any event, it is undeniable that the CALIFORNIA wackos can not even supply enough electric for TODAY"S NEEDS.
I have not insulted you. Please don't insult me just because I don't agree with you.

O.K., you got the attention you crave, opinion duly noted. Now stfu and go cook something.

I don't think the power draw of the Dodger Stadium lighting is much more than a drop in the bucket, compared to the power draw of over 13 million households in Calif.
I understand that and didn't mean to be snarky about it either. Just thought it might make some sort of statement about how serious the situation is during this heatwave. Probably not the best of my ideas 🙄

It makes perfect sense to me. If we are forced to use elec cars with a very limited range, it is quite obvious that we must live very close to charging stations. Hence, few will be living in the in the country/mountains etc.
Few people in CA live in the country/mountains etc. CA has the highest concentration of residents who live in major metropolitan areas near the coast - over 90%.

No snarkyness detected. :) You're right though, it could raise the awareness of the public if the state had asked MLB to cancel the night games.
I actually wasn't aware of the 4 to 9pm reduced energy request until having seen my brother's post on Facebook, and mentioned here.

I lived up there for years. People up in the hills don't use much electricity anyway, but they have no use for electric cars.
I suppose some farmers family cars are electric, but not their tractors and other engine-propelled machinery.

I think we have to make exceptions for those populations.

Seriously though, all light-up sports arenas in Calif use LED....or at least, that's my understanding. And they were supposed to change them all out by 2003, or somewhere around there.

Interesting, with California requiring the move to all electric cars they will need to figure something out...
Yes, it's definitely a Catch 22. I personally think they are moving in the right direction, but it will take time to reverse what is happening with our climate.

If cars prices weren't so inflated these days I would consider replacing my little 4-cylinder Audi with an electric car. I'm not a Tesla fan, but our friends took us to dinner in their Model S. I'm a "lead foot" driver, but when they demonstrated the acceleration I was actually hanging on for dear life!

It's been hotter-than-normal(and muggy!) virtually all summer, but today was noticeably hotter. Thermostat always set to 80 F., electric bill in excess of $350/mo. Next year: Replacing the central AC, looking into getting a solar system. No plans for electric car.
You will be happy when you replace your central AC. We have two big units... one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Upstairs is set at 80 degrees and downstairs is set at 77 degrees. Heat always rises to the top, so the downstairs unit almost never runs. Before replacing them, the electric bill could easily be $400+ a month. It was $315 last month, and we were in triple digits the entire month.

California seems to be full of good ideas on protecting the environment....however, they seem to lack the infrastructure to make it happen. It;s one thing to legislate "mandates", but quite another to actually have the means to achieve these goals.
It's not just charging stations it's sources of consistent power generation. And zoned or segregated grid so one issue in one location won't take down many others.

Throw in imperfect ev car tech and design it's too early to mandate. Gas car have become quiet efficient. My first was a 9-12 miles per gallon v8. Now even the big cars are over 20 mpg.

Also saw that many Cali ev owners have. a traditional engine car so guess what's hitting the road this weekend.

You have a point there. My father's '73 Grand Am with a V8 got 13 mpg. My '17 Audi A4 with an I4 gets 21 mpg in the city, and it could smoke my Dad's Grand Am. Engines have gotten more efficient for sure.

That's the thing it took almost a century of using gas engines on a large scale to get them where they are now. Some of these ev deadlines, goals and mandates are being rushed. Also with any product in needs to be in the real world for a while to see what will actually happen overtime and with these ev goals and deadlines don't allow for that. The first generation of ev's will be coming at or near these mandate start dates. One or two generations of ev use is not enough to perfect them for mass deployment.

Yes, and of course lacking the infrastructure(at present)is understood and accounted for. In such a complex long term project securing the means to reach the goals is part of the undertaking.

One important thing California has forgotten or chose to ignore.... vastly increasing population. No matter what California does, about green energy, it is merely a drop in the bucket of a WORLD-WIDE population increase. The greater the population , the greater the green-house gasses. For those who never thought about it, green-house gasses DO NOT stay in place. Those gasses "float" all around the world, Thus, exploding populations of Asia, continue to add evermore greenhouse gasses. So, no matter what CA does, the world will continue to use fossil fuels, and in the process, create more and more greenhouse gasses.
For those who have traveled to Asia, they may recall the heavy smog in mega-cities like Beijing, Manila, and the cities of India. Those places are filled with old cars, trucks, jeepney's etc which literally pour vast amounts of blackish/grey smoke.

I bet, our unit is going on 16 years old, already had 2 expensive repairs, so it's time. This is going to be the "last hurrah", I want this equipment replacement / upgrade to deliver the most bang-for-the-buck. I'm looking at hybrid systems that can double for heating as a heat pump, rather than use propane exclusively for space heating. Our propane bills in winter have been hitting $500+ a month, a hybrid unit would ran as heat pump and only switch to propane when temperatures get lower. I'll be happy if able shift a considerable amount of propane usage to electrical, in which case installing a solar system will be much more cost effective.
