Cabin Fever

Here in Canada and parts of the USA the winters can force you indoors a lot more than you really want to be.

I find the need to just get out and walk so a trip to Costco and sample of course is one way. Snow shovelling, let's just say the landlord appreciates my help but I can't talk him into lowering the rent :D

Sometimes tv and reading can help the long days.

How do you cope with cabin fever?

I spent years in South Dakota. During winter we were locked in for months. Now we laugh at the situation because we live in the Phoenix Metro area and we spend most of summer locked in in A/C! Computer, books and TV is pretty much it then! If I were younger and healthier I'd have more options.

I saw a movie once with Rock Hudson. He was locked in a cabin for a long stretch. He went out to wash his face in a pool and saw his reflection.

Then he went insane.

I just have to get out. Don't care where I am going. Have nothing planned. Just get outside and enjoy whatever is there.

Television just doesn't cut it for me. Cannot get interested in any shows except Jeopardy.

I phoned the cable company and downsized to the 'skinny' package.

This forum and games on the computer.

TV (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Acorn).

Practicing singing for the various amateur performing groups I am in.

It has to be a sever blizzard going on for me not to get out and about, the kind where they warn not to drive unless absolutely necessary due to snow plows and accidents. But even on those days I go in my yard to clear a path or two for the dog and shovel a path on the walkway, driveway and sidewalk.

On the few days I'm stuck inside all day, I try to at least get a little housework done....keyword, try. :p

I try to get out and run a couple of errands everyday.

If the weather is really bad I tackle a cleaning or organizing job like washing knick knacks or reshelving/dusting books, etc...

This may sound odd but in the apartment complex where I live the management will not allow the residents to shovel the walks, rake leaves, pull weeds, etc... It has something to do with insurance liability.

I seem to be finding that word, "try", in my vocabulary more often than when I was younger.:D

I have never had cabin fever. To many projects around the house. I love to putter. Hubby is tucked away in our little sitting room with the TV. Sometimes I think he's afraid to come out in fear of what I have done around the house. I know if he sees a paint can sitting in the laundry room he gets the shakes.

 Ruth

Me too. My house is old and probably too big for one person. If I get bored, I just wander to another room and start remodeling something. :playful:

I keep busy in the winter....If it's washing clothes, changing the furniture around...or going shopping unless it's snowing....I've been going through many pictures...sending some to my niece's and nephew's with
their baby pictures...They get a kick out of it...They have babies now....Another one on the way for my nephew and wife....Number 3.....
Also many Doctor Appointments for my hubby...We were in NYC on Tuesday for his last check up....He will be going to the Oncologist for 5 years....(Sorry I got sidetracked with the subject)
Have a great Day.....
