Cable Outage

My service (Internet, TV and phone) was out for about 30 minutes this morning. When that goes out, I can't call to ask when service will be restored because my phone is on cable. The problem has been corrected, but they never tell what caused it.

when you lived in the last house and there was problems galore with it.. we nagged you, cajoled, and begged you to sell and move into a home which would be more manageable for you.. which would make your life a little easier... Now for the 50th Millionth time, PLEASE get a Mobile phone.. it will make your life so much easier. :D

A cheap mobile not connected to any contract so no need for any direct debit payments.. with a PAYG sim card... will really help you . It's the easiest thing to set up.. a phone for a few dollars, and a £10 dollar sim card which will probably last you for years..

I often get text notifications from the phone company that they are working on the outage when there is no outage at my place. Same with the cable company. They never say what happened when it gets fixed. They just say they are sorry for the inconvenience and to let them know if there is still a problem.

Deb, since the outage only lasted 30 minutes, it's hard to guess what caused it, but it probably wasn't an upgrade. Over here in the west, the cable company has been doing a major systems upgrade and our service was out for like 7 hours. My daughter lives in southern Cali and hers was out for about 4 hours.

Deb!!!!!!! Get a Consumer Cellular flip phone. I pay about 25 dollars a month. It would be less without texting.

You drive and walk. You should not be out and about without a cell. I use mine rarely.

I too have a landline with cable. I only keep it due to my stepfather at this point since he has to call me every day and he's on the caption phone due to hearing impairment.

Do you participate in any fed program, wic, snap, medicare, tribal-tanf, SSI? If so, you can get a free phone.

0 expense, really. (As long as you don't lose the phone)

I don't have a cell phone! I will never have a cell phone...
I see people reading them while driving, reading them while eating, even on dates, I see families out to dinner and the whole family is on these @$%&%#$ cell phones. Our relationships are being torn apart by cell phones. You cannot have a REAL relationship with anyone on a cell phone or even on text's. You have to look in each other's eyes and see their expressions to get intimate with anyone...

The world is going crazy, and no one knows why! I do...it is the cell phones...

Of course, I am exaggerating, but what I say still applies...BEWARE

WHY do you bother HD?!
Deb, it's a good thing it was resolved quickly.

Today, you need a mobile phone. It's not1955, when a party line was all you needed. It's today, and you absolutely need a mobile phone for convenience, for your personal safety, and for emergencies- both at home and away. If you can afford cable/TV/internet, you can certainly afford a mobile phone.

I'm a little north of Murrmurr and they upgraded our service too. Ours was out about 5 hours but of course, ours didn't come back on. Our house phone is also through the cable co., so I get into a tedious texting-back-and-forth session with the cable co. on my cell phone. And of course, the first thing they tell me is to unplug the modem/router and plug it back in. I tell 'em I've already tried that, about six times. Oh, they say, okay we're gonna have to send a tech out, we can get 1 out there in a couple of days. Sigh. So the evening before the tech was finally gonna come, I tried unplugging and replugging one more time and then it was back up. So I think that something that got switched off for the upgrade didn't get switched back on until somebody finally noticed; 1 of their techs told me a few years ago that that was exactly what happens sometimes.

You have a lot of good points, Timewise 60+.
Technology rules, and makes the world difficult at times.

Deb..what are you going to do if you break down miles from home, it's raining or it's snowing, or it's just too far to walk, how are you going to call for help ?
Deb did post to explain about using a cell phones is like beating dead horse. She might even be amazed that dropping land line service and applying that amount to cell phone & having her land line number changed to the cell would be super convenient.

I think she meant that asking her to get a cell phone is like beating a dead horse... but she said the same about selling the last house ..lol... and look what happened.:sneaky:...we got her into that house by beating her with our imaginary stick, and you'll notice she's not even made us a cuppa tea

The fact is we are looking out for her safety... Cellphones' as you say are convenient..very much more so than landlines in many ways... and of course nowadays, with the lack of street phones in the case of an emergency, mobile phones are no longer a fancy gadget.. not that they have been for 30 years.. but today even more so .. they are a necessity
