Calendars... what kind do you look for/put up each year?

This reminds me of a thread I started here on SF (https://www.seniorforums.com/threads/online-shopping-rant.55798/) about calendars back on Mon., 12/28; the TLDR: Huzz gave me a Barnes & Noble GC for Christmas; I try going to B&N site to look for a calendar; becuz of where the calendar's gonna hang, it needs to be betw. 10-12" wide x 16-18" long, no more, no less; welp, guess what, B&N doesn't list the sizes of most of their cal's on their site. So now, if I wanna use the GC to buy 1 from them, I'm gonna have to drive down there (not a short distance) & look myself. I really wonder sometimes about who's setting up the websites for these companies...grumble, grumble...but thanks for listening and happy new year.

For a number of years I was ordering calendars from Amazon, and if I remember correctly, sizes were given, which to me was and still is important as well.

Happy New Year to you as well, Officerripley!

I know, Amazon's really good in my experience to list the sizes of stuff on their site. In fact, when looking at the cal's on B&N, I tried opening up a window to Amazon & looking for the B&N cal I was interested in on Amazon so I could get the size but Amazon doesn't carry any of the B&N cals I'm interested in. Heck, I also tried going to the cal's publisher's sites and either the pub only sold wholesale or didn't carry any of the B&N cals I wanted.

It's slowly coming back to me--since I'm old and can't remember nuthin' anymore  -- about 5+ years ago, I noticed that whenever B&N sent a coupon they were starting to have the coupon be worth more (or only work at all) if you used it in the store. I griped about it on another website & somebody said, "Oh all these places that still have brick&mortar stores are doing that now; they know more impulse buying happens when you're physically in the store." Sign of the times I guess.

Back (kind of) to what this thread is orig. about, I love wall calendars. I know I can use the calendar on my phone, but I like looking at the pretty cal pix on my wall. But as was said above, wall cal's are prob. being phased out because of more & more using their phones or computers. And I have noticed that they are fewer & fewer free cal's being offered by businesses; I used to get so many free cal's in the mail or sitting next to cash registers of stores I went in, that I'd be giving 'em away. Not anymore.

And another thing--I promise I'm almost done --looking online for the calendars: boy, there's a lot of weird ones for sale, dogs pooping, cats pooping, naked rugby players...o_O You know, I've quit using the expression,"What's this world coming to?!'" because I'm afraid I know.

I love wall calendars, too.

Aside from seeing them as simple wall art, I get excited to flip each scene at the end of each month and get surprised over what awaits.

I've never been one for naked calendars, and as for dogs and cats doing their thing, definitely don't want something like that hanging on the wall.

I'm a real fuss-nut when it comes to my calendars as far as writing in them goes. I never write on my calendars (date, appointments, etc).

I get free calendars from the grocery. The one in the kitchen I cross out each day that passed (of my life) and mark days I cut the grass. I have an appointment calendar in a desk drawer but I buy those. I prefer paper over anything digital.

Over the past 20 years, I have seen a handful of Thomas Kinkade calendars, Astronomy calendars, a few John Sloan's, and now Treasured Times.

The calendars that really touch me are the ones that reach out to me and pull me in, like this latest one. :)
A few years back I bought two calendars online from Amazon, one from this artist and one from another artist, can't think of his name now. Both surreal art calendars.

I mostly use free nature ones that come in the mail from charities. My favorite though has big colorful flowers that I normally get free from a really sweet coworker who brings a big bag of calendars and lets people pick one. But with working from home this year that option is gone so no flowers for me.
A long time ago I used to love one particular magazine's Horse Calendar, it had exactly the type of horse competition photos that I liked, but the magazine was owned by a husband and wife and when they got divorced the magazine was kaput.

No businesses around here are doing free calendars anymore.
Hard to find here, too. I'm going to try to find one while I'm out running errands today but I'm not at all optimistic.

I like ones that look good in my kitchen. So no cats and dogs dumping on lawns. I got one last year with very colorful pictures of sweets and pastries befitting each month - heart shaped cookies for Feb, boxed chocolates for uh...whatever month Mother's Day falls on, etc.. That was a favorite of my g-kids (and mine, I confess).

Got a pretty scenic wall calendar from my car dealership when I stopped in last week to get air in the tires.
And I seem to remember getting one in the mail last year from Blue Cross, so maybe they will send me another one.

I always buy a plain giant 21x14 calendar yearly that sits on the table for notes and anything going on.

Prefer the calendar from the local council, it has the dates for the red, green and yellow garbage nights marked in big letters. :)
