California Wildfires

I'm about 35 miles from the lower edge of the Big Creek Fire but I don't think it's going to get over here. We do have suitcases packed on our front porch and a list of a few other things to grab on the way out.

Right now I think Oregon has it worse than we do here in California. It's all so sad. Heavy smoke all over. Thankfully we have the N95 masks when we leave the house. We can smell smoke inside our house.

What’s the latest news. Are the firefighters gaining any ground on the fires?

Thinking of you Linda... please stay safe.

I've seen satellite pics of the West Coast, with smoke over thousands of miles. My God, this is every year for CA residents.

We've rarely been affected by the smoke from wild fires and I've lived in California for almost 60 years. This is not every year. Also we rarely have such large fires hitting California, Oregon and Washington at the same time. From what I understand some of the smoke from up north blew south and affected our air.

There have been so many fires (I think over 600 in CA) that some are contained and some aren't. Some people don't have homes to go back to. If our place burns down we have family we could go to but a lot of people live in cars or go to shelters. A lot of wonderful people took trailers into the fire areas and helped evacuate horses and other animals. There are volunteers at shelter just for animals so that's good. People are donating food and money to help take care of them till they can go back to their owners. Some people are missing and presumed dead in Oregon so if they had animals they won't be seeing them again, at lest not in this life. Its all pretty sad.

This is not a normal fire year as asp3 said.

Just don't know what to say, as it is all so heartbreaking

We had a little excitement here yesterday. We were coming home and saw a plume of smoke about a mile from our house. It made our local paper:
"Crews were working to put out a small fire Wednesday in a river bottom south of Santa Paula, authorities said. "
It was about 3 acres, but it did cause concern. Last year we had to evacuate because of a fire on the mountain behind us.

Thanks for updating. It’s always good to read what locals are describing. The emphasis here has been on our smoke, AQI 10+. They do show the destroyed properties but I like to know what’s happening locally.

I sure feel for all those dealing with this horrific fire season.

It's been awful for so many. Right now it could happen to anyone in the west. It's all just so dry. I tell you what, it is motivation for making peace the oneself. Fretting does no good at all.

The air quality index here in DTLA is much better today. Those interested to monitor AQI in their location, go to airnow.gov

To everyone, try to laugh heartily, it's good for your soul! Take care guys!
Thanks. Where I am there wouldn't be any way for them to know what it is, and they would give me a generalization from another reporting station like they do with the weather. When I got up this morning I could see the hills fairly clearly. Within a half an hour it set in again.
