Calling all techy people!!! Can you point me to a good app?

Here's a question for the techy folks: is there an app for computers so that when I'm reading a website page, and something relevant catches my attention, I can make a note ON THAT PAGE and it stays saved so that if I bookmark it and go back tomorrow to read again, my 'note' is still there? I do so much reading and I have hundreds of bookmarks because one point stands out or it makes me think of something else but if I go back another time, I would have to read the whole thing before finding the reason that I book marked it. Did I explain that well enough or have I confused the heck out of you?

Thanks for the suggestion Holly but after reading about Instapaper, it sounds more likes it's a 'read later' sort of app and I already have one on my laptop.

What I would like to be able to do is sort of attach a 'post-it note' to the page I'm reading if it triggered a thought in my head or if there was a particular idea occurred to me as I was reading....like if you were reading a book and you can either write in the margins (I would never do that - what a sacrilege!) or as I do, stick a post it note on that page. But thanks for the suggestion.

I looked at StickyNotes oldman and it looks to be for Microsoft. And when I looked at the link you provided Son of Perdition, I checked out the one WebNotes (looked fantastic and just what I'm looking for) but I don't think it's likely to work for Apple because when I Googled WebNotes for Apple, it looks quite different and doesn't seem to do what the other did. Sorry, I should have mentioned that I'm working on an Apple and right now, looking at that 'WebNotes' I'm kind of sorry I am (using an Apple that is).

My computer abilities are pretty limited so I'll have to use your suggestions for a jumping off point and enlist my husbands assistance. But thanks for the suggestions folks.

Debby,

When you Bookmark" a site in FireFox, a little
window opens that allows you to put in a comment,
but I know nothing about Apple Computers, is there
not something like that in them?

Mike.

Hate to keep whipping a dead horse, there is a Mac version of Chrome that can be downloaded/installed free, then install the 'Note Anywhere' app, also free. Some like Chrome better than FF (which I prefer). But to each his own. Web Notes is a subscription service for $5 monthly. Problem is if you are OCD like me and want to keep off the grid as much as possible by clearing cookies and browsing history I would imagine that the notes are only good for the period of time between cleaning your system of unnecessary links, files and tracks.

I had my husband look at the WebNotes thing and he found that it does work with Mac's after all, but ordering it isn't seeming to work and he emailed the company but they aren't responding. So we'll see, but I'll mention that Chrome thingy to him and let him do my hunting. Thanks for the pointers though. Who knows, with your help I may get what I'm looking for!

I tried what you said with FireFox and I didn't get anything that looks like that so I guess it is different on a Mac. The only thing I could do on the bookmark thing is put a tag on it but not really what I would like to use. But thanks for suggesting using FF. I think the reason we switched over to Safari is because in our rural location, we found that FF is really slow.

I use Sticky Notes a lot for this kind of thing. But here's another thing that works:

Before you get online, start your word processor (Word, or whatever). Open a "new document" page, as if you were beginning to write something. Then, minimize it, using the minus sign at the top right of your screen. It should appear on your toolbar; in my case, it looks like a lined pad with a pen in front of it. That means it's open and waiting.

When you want to type in your note, just click on the icon. Type your note, then minimize it again. You can do this repeatedly, and your notes will stay there as long as you need them. Works the same as Sticky Notes, but you can save your notes if you like.
