Can we still donate clothes?

I've got a growing pile of stuff that, before all this happened, I would have donated to a local organization like Goodwill, or one of the others. I don't even know if they are open now. Does anybody know? Are any organizations still distributing clothing?

I read an article that said that unfortunately, there really is no need for clothing donations. It costs less to buy new items, especially from countries like China and Sri Lanka, than to do all the work of cleaning and reprocessing donated ones.

Does anybody know?
 

The local thrift shops are accepting donations including clothing with a no-contact drop-off at the store.

I did get a little pushback recently when I took a large donation of books but they were accepting most other usable items.

In this area, if they get too much clothing or paper materials it is processed for scrap baled and sold to a paper company that produces paper towels, toilet paper, etc...
 
My wife recently went through her closets, and picked out dozens of clothing items that she no longer likes. We dropped them off at a Salvation Army store.
 
It may depend on your location, so make a few phone calls. My husband dropped off a large bag of clothing to a local (Houston) Goodwill this morning. He had to carry it inside himself; the usually car drop-off area did not have anyone to unload as they used to.
 
I guess it depends on your idea of charity. Sally's ( Salvation Army) will gladly take your stuff. There are used clothing donation bins around, but some are owned by rag companies. If you want to help others, Sally's. If you just want to get rid of it, it's one of those corporate bins.
