Can You Afford to Eat?

Council tax is a charge set by local government and is supposed to pay for things like refuse collection, public libraries, maintaining public parks and a host of other things etc.. The charge varies from area to area and is roughly based on property value - irrespective of how much you use the amenities.

In our area, the amount we pay includes fresh water supply, waste water and sewage disposal etc, but again this varies from area to area.
It sounds like this is similar to our real estate tax. For homeowners water/waste water/trash are generally a billed item. We currently pay about 2.25% of assessed value.

Yes as I said before , it's your business what you spend... but I have all those bills too.... including a mortgage ..and a loan ..and a second home ..taxes insurances, car maintenance, tax and insurance ..household bills ...home repairs... water bills.. utility bills... and all of that from just ONE person..ME.. and from a very limited budget.
I know you do, and have no idea how how you can manage to pay it all with a limited budget. 🤗

Your rat bastard, soon-to-be-ex, pulled more than one rug out from under you.

That sounds about right but none of it is something I would buy.
I hadn't had sardines in close to a decade. I decided to buy them out of curiosity. The Chicken of the Sea brand was on sale and I'd never had those before. I wanted to see if I still like sardines. The plain ones in water made a good sardine sandwich. I didn't care for the ones in lemon sauce. Probably won't get them again anytime soon.

I don't buy cows milk anymore after reading about the disgusting things that can be in the milk. Even though it's pasteurized, I still don't want it anymore. Tried soy milk, then went to almond milk. Pot pies are in case I just don't feel like making anything. My husband and I used to get the Marie Callender pot pies from Costco and they are larger. There's no need for me to have that many in the house now. Banquet was also on sale.

So are you more of a healthy eater Twostep?

I would not consider myself a healthy eater but a very picky one. When I got to the US food was an issue. I was used to fresh vegetables, bakeries, small restaurants and bars. FIL had pitty on me and showed me how to make corn bread and grilled cheese sandwiches.
So necessity taught me to cook and bake. It is still my "how to save when I have a project in mind". Honestly - I enjoy it especially now that I have the time to play around and I learned by means of chemistry. Healthy has somewhat of a label of kale, cucumber and cottage cheese:>) Moderation and willingness to try something is my idea. I always ask before plating. Yes, there are times I end up with enough rabbit food to choke a rabbit:>)

My son claims to be a healthy eater, but he falls off the wagon sometimes. :D He also has the uncanny ability to fast for between 3 and 10 days. And he was diagnosed as diabetic a few years ago. He manages with diet; refuses to take meds for it. I love a man in the kitchen. My son probably does as much or more "real" cooking as I do. And he does the real stuff, washing, cutting, chopping, etc. I hate doing that stuff and cooking in general. The older I get, the more I dislike it.

I eat a lot of broccoli and egg whites. I can make meals using both fairly quickly. The only way I like cottage cheese is in Golden cheese blintzes, which I love, otherwise it's a turn off for me. Tried that cottage cheese and fruit thing when I was young and trying to lose weight; couldn't deal with it. Be aware that kale is on the Dirty Dozen list.
