Can You Beat This? How Hubby Handles Boredom

Bored? Me? Never!!

I just settle back in my chair and nod off, and almost straight away I'm with Natalie Wood. The other day I had one such episode, Natalie was smooching me and caressing my arm, then I woke with a start to find the dog from over the road licking my arm. 😊

Haven't been bored in a long time. The trick to it is to have a passion for something, like music, painting, crossword puzzles, volunteering. There's always something to do if you look hard enough. Since I started my studies, I have had projects building up in the background waiting to be finished! So as soon as I finish one thing, I have another waiting for me. I don't like being bored.

Some if not most of us when bored sit around and complain about how bored they are.

He was leaning against the porch railing looking down and counting. What are you counting I asked. The number of buds on the peony bush he answered and there were 26 if you need to know.

I told him we have another bush and if he still had time he could also count the buds on the Wild Iris.

How do you handle boredom?
The other day I was forced to wait a long time in a doctor's examining room. There was nothing to do in there, cell phones had to be off, and there was nothing to look at on the walls except signs about washing hands, how to dispose of bacteria laden trash, etc. So I started playing a game where I tried to see how many words I could make out of each word on the signs. I was surprised at how many I came up with!

I ALWAYS carry a book to doc's.

Tim, I'm so glad you are back on forum. We have all desperately needed laughter these days and you always come through for us!

I'm never bored. I have a routine.

I sleep in, I go up to my office with my coffee every morning (even though I'm retired) and check my e-mails, play Wordle, pay my bills, etc. on my laptop while I watch the monologues of some of the late night shows I've previously recorded. I then have lunch and head to the gym. The time after the gym is usually spent walking by the lake and reading, although it has been too hot here recently to do that.

I also spend time after the gym at various grocery stores planning out dinner. I'm not a cook, so usually it is something pre-prepared from Sprouts, Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.

I try to stay away from the house until at least 3 or 4pm. I'm always listening to music in my car, so the more time on the road the better. When I return home, the cats are crying for dinner. I feed them, then watch some crime dramas and prepare dinner.

Sometimes I book an afternoon showing of an Indie film at the local theater.

My partner arrives home from work at either 5:15 or 6:15pm and I wonder where the day went!

I've never understood the concept of boredom. I don't get bored.

I feel that my wife and I are like the old movie series of Ma and Pa Kettle. She is out and about doing all kinds of thing and I am kicked back going with the flow. I don't feel like I am board possibly because I like to meditate, stay still and let my body go numb so I don't feel it anymore. Then visualize on things that happened in the past, the present, and what may happen into the future and how things can be changed now to make the future to a more peaceful place.

Pa Kettle was under-appreciated.

My mind wanders when I'm bored, and the OP's story reminded my of a "joke" from back in the day.

What is the difference between making love to a hooker, your girlfriend, or your wife?

Hooker says: Aren't you done yet?
Girlfriend says: Are you done already?
Wife says: Did you know there are 47 cracks in the ceiling?

Sorry, but I'm bored....
