Can You Keep A Secret ??

I am a pretty good secret keeper, especially if told to me in confidence.
I will ask some pretty hard questions of the person not to be nosy but to better understand
the reasoning and maybe plant a seed to get them to think clearly.

The great replies above remind me of an incident in our local friendship circle. People in my valley bring contributions to get-together lunches or dinners. Could be a salad, fancy-prepared potatoes, homemade bread, handpicked berries, ice cream, a bottle of wine, whatever.

One time a good friend of my wife (call her “Lois”) brought brownies to contribute to dessert. She didn’t mention it but, being short on spare time, she’d bought them at a local bakery. When we’d all finished with the delectable dinner, the brownies plate was passed around.

The most worldly woman at the table, a transplant from the big city and normally a bit narcissistic, looks wide-eyed at Lois and blurts out “This is the most delicious brownie I’ve ever tasted!” To which Lois smiled and quietly replied, “A secret Jewish recipe, handed down through my family.”

Lois revealed only to my wife where the brownies had come from. (So far as I know, my wife only revealed the secret to me.)

I can but, most of the time, I would rather not know in the first place. :(

..........................................................................☝️This.

I understand that some people need to unburden themselves, but telling a secret places a burden on the person who has been told. If it's really a secret, please keep it to yourself.

When one of my family members tells me something or I tell them something and I call for instance my sister the next day she'll say: oh mom already told me that. But those are not things nobody may know. A real secret yes.

If something is a secret, they should say explicitly that it‘s a secret. Who knows if they’re just chatting or you’re the only one they’re sharing this with.
