Can You Keep Up With All You're Supposed To Do To Stay Healthy?

Like taking your meds on time, getting exercise, eating properly and making meals to insure that, visiting your doctor at least once a year, etc.
~I have one pill I have to take in the a.m. with only 4 ounces of water (I was taking it with water enhancer and now it will be decaf tea, despite the instructions that state water only. I don't like plain water, especially taking that very bitter pill with it. I thank God it is not any bigger. I can't eat anything for two hours before and a half hour after.

~I have another that I take only once a week. I have my pill boxes to help me remember to take the several meds I'm on.

~I have eye drops that are supposed to go in a particular time of day at least 10 minutes apart. Sometimes I don't keep that schedule but thankfully my eye pressures are great.

~Eating healthy on a regular basis often requires cooking or a lot of prep. I hate both, so I'm deficient in that area, but I am trying to do better.

~Exercise. Well you know how that is. I keep meaning to. I need to. I have to!! Because I need to lose at least 20 pounds yesterday! 😒

What about you? Any get and stay healthy challenges?

I love cooking and don't have a sweet tooth so, that does help. My downfall would be cheese and eggs - especially cheese - so they are just occasional treats these days. Overall, I think my diet is pretty good 🤞

I stopped going to the gym because it closed down during Covid. As soon as it became possible, I ordered a stationery spin bike so, I could exercise indoors and since then have added a few other bits like dumb bells and resistance bands. In the very hot weather recently, I stopped because it was just too hot but, I am starting again and, we intend to do a lot of walking while we are away. I know you love music and dancing - dancing is one of my favourite exercises :)

I would say, aim to make changes in diet and lifestyle which you can keep to. Don't be too hard on yourself. Do what you enjoy, if you are not keen on traditional exercise, get dancing instead, Good luck with your fitness/weight loss journey ❤️
 
I focus on the things that are important to me and ignore the rest.

I take my vision seriously, work to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, that’s about it.

I’m not sure that it will make much difference in the long run, we should all probably focus on the things that we enjoy and let the future take care of itself.

I pick my battles but, this horrid humidity with dewpoints in mid70’s for weeks, is getting in my way. I still have horses, one hour at the barn morning & night and I am literally drenched in sweat.

I never have liked to cook and like it even less these days. Daily Boost and vitamins appropriate for my age and issues help me stay healthy. I know this because my doctor was doing a dance over my blood work. I didn’t have the heart to tell him part of the reason for that is two of the vitamins I take.

Husband (RIP) wouldn’t take vitamins until his cancer doctor prescribed them — that made them alright in spite of what I suggested———
 
Disciplining myself to walk every day - it was a mile, now I'm doing two - is a challenge some days, but important for circulation. Vegetables started in crock pot most days are so easy that eating right isn't difficult, except I should cut down on sugar. Three prescriptions a day + certain supplements aren't a problem. I think avoiding stress is my biggest obstacle to having good health.
 
The past few years have been challenging, seems like soon as I turned 65 (67 now) my warranty ran out. Prediabetes first and it took about a year to reverse it through diet and exercise. Then came prostate cancer and the treatment for it. Now it's stage 4 throat cancer and all that comes with, chemo, radiation and surgery. I live alone and don't ask anyone for anything. I fight the good fight and very active. The funny thing is healthcare workers, friends and neighbors say I look great, healthy and couldn't tell I am going through all this. Maybe it is the fight and being active. I don't even drive. I walked and shuffled to chemo and radiation.

Our daily diet is chosen with care and balance, it's become an easy habit.

Rather than sweet things for a treat we eat fresh fruit, it's filling, keeps the weight off and makes you 'regular.'
As for exercise, that's a sore subject as my wife continues her recovery. Prior to her heart problem our exercise was easy. We have been lifelong dancers, as in, Latin and Ballroom. How we miss it.
 
I used to walk three miles every day, consume the recommended five fruits and veggies daily, count how many grams of protein I was getting, keep an eye on the fats and sugars, the amount of cholesterol in stuff I ate, made sure I got the 7-8 hours of sleep every night, did all the right stuff.

Then one day I said to myself "Self, you're old, and a lot of the things you're doing make life darned inconvenient and stressful. WTH! Eat what you like, exercise if you feel like it. Just make sure you're hydrated and take your BP and heart meds and be done with it."

So I did. Now I garden, eat when I'm hungry, don't worry about how much fat and sugar I'm getting from the dark chocolate I favor, stay up late if I feel like it, sleep when I'm tired.

I take the one script in the AM & have divided my vitamin doses up into 3x a day. My main vitamins are Bromelain for my digestion & a liver pill along with D3 which have made a big difference in my blood work. I try to eat my steel cut or long cooking old-fashioned oatmeal 5 days a week for my cholesterol which also made a difference.

Since hubby had gastric sleeve surgery in February, the amount I cook has changed. I'm still learning to cook smaller amounts of food for us. He needs to eat 6 small meals/snacks during the day & I'm still trying to figure out when I need to eat. We have breakfast & I'll make a dinner, but he takes care of his snacks which is usually all protein. He's doing good on his diet & it's been easy for him to adjust.

Since I love to bake, I've taken the excess cookies to spread the wealth to the vet's office, feed store & kid takes them her to work.

@Imogene, I hear you about the weather & taking care of horses. I'll be glad when this heat breaks which is supposed to be tomorrow. Both horses have been getting hosed down each day with water. The mare loves it & the gelding swears he's being abused.
