Can you multi task?

Do you have a problem multi tasking?
I am the same way with cooking, I can do a few things at the same time in the kitchen but sometimes while in the kitchen I'll think of something else I need to do and have to do it right away or I'll forget.

I guess I could makes a list of everything I need to do but it seems to get tedious that way.

I was once so good at this. It was absolutely necessary in the jobs I had, and I prided myself on it.

However, now I have trouble doing one task, and remembering the steps to it.:rolleyes::confused:

The difference between then and now, is staggering.
:(
It may be @Kaila, that we no longer need to multi task as we did before retirement and juggling the kids needs, the house, the meals, social engagements etc.

I think we just got out of the habit. If we had all those responsibilities back, we'd all be re-learning to multi task again. Even that one task that worries you now, you'd be flying through it again!

I have no problems with ths yet, but I go out so much less now, that I really have to stop and think of how to get to some places I haven't been to for awhile. That's what I find scary.

I might put a laundry load on and then do other chores while waiting for it to finish. But, when cooking a recipe, I always get all the ingredients measured and cut up etc. before I start cooking, otherwise everything starts going haywire while I'm trying to cut up veggies and other things.

Me, too. I do lots of multi-tasking in the kitchen.
Less in other areas.

You can set multiple timers on Alexa and name them. "Alexa, set rice timer for 9 minutes." "Alexa, set 50 minute chicken timer." Sooo handy. I have a reminder set for Monday to pay the dog sitter, because that's something so easy to forget, and it's totally not fair for the sitter if I do. We have a reminder to take our pills, morning and evening. We use Alexa a lot!
What if Alexa forgets? She's getting older.

I am still working on chewing gum and walking!!

I can multi-task provided that I'm not interrupted while in the process of doing so, but as Robert Burns observed, the best laid plans, etc. When I'm tired and have to leave a comfortable seat to do something, I'd rather do whatever else might need to be done to have it all over with. That's when it starts...the "while you're up, will you bring me" requests, plus the animals might want out or in. Before I know it, my original mission has been sidelined or forgotten... :(

Yes, I can but I make a concentrated effort not to. The reason I try not to is because I am retired & I have found that less is better. I have read a book once that clearly stated that multi-tasking is a prime cause of stress, anxiety & general unhappiness. You can try to be a "jack of all trades" but you will just become "a master of none". As our society evolves, more & more people are required to multi task to keep their jobs. I feel sorry for them. Not interested in getting a heart attack or stroke!

I never thought of it this way. We can relax now!

I can but not as good as I could when I was a mom with 4 kids at home, a husband, dogs and a couple younger brothers and their families staying with us from time to time! Now I get mixed up a lot or forget what I'm doing but thankfully my husband is quite understanding about it and I'm understanding about what all he forgets and gets mixed up. Between us we can usually cook a meal and clean a house.

I have to multitask every day at work in order to put out a meal for over 100 people every night. I find myself multitasking at home as well. Like sometimes when I'm on here with you guys I might also be in the other room cleaning the toilet. LOL!

How closely? LOL

Could I say something you would find very unlike me, to see if you notice?
:ROFLMAO::LOL::Do_O:ROFLMAO::LOL:

BTW, I saw some giraffes go by my window, today.....wearing pajama's, they were......

I'm finding that in my old age I'm having difficulty multi tasking. Today I put a cake in the oven to bake. I decide to take a few items down to our basement, immediately I forgot about the cake. My hubby smelled it and called down to me. Luckily the cake was fine.
I can still multi task while I'm cooking. Peel onions while potatoes cook, things like that. Once I leave the room I can be totally distracted almost instantly.
I have a timer that I sometimes carry with me and that helps.

Do you have a problem multi tasking?
I
Yes. I have a timer on my cell phone. Most cell phones do. It reminds me. And I have one on my computer with a loud bell.Bioiling a pot of water. My worst fear.

Back in the day when my kids were babies, I was a multi-tasking queen!

My days were a nonstop whirlwind of excitement from morning until night, 8 days a week, but somehow I managed to maintain my sanity. Sure, I had my good and bad days (we all do), but overall I seldom missed a beat. Boggles my mind just thinking about it now, but at the time it was nothing. I should have written a book, I would have called it, all in a day's work. Those were the days...

As for these days, not so much anymore, not because I can't, but because I don't want to. I approach life now with a sense of, whatever I don't get done today, there's tomorrow, and I'm a much happier person for it. :)
