Can You Say Anything Good About Winter?

Good day to you, Chet! :)

As I have aged I have learned to loathe winter more and more, but all-in-all, given the choice between a mild and snow-free environment year-round vs the true honest-to-goodness four-seasons we enjoy, I'll take the four-seasons any day.

I think I'm one of the few people I know of that enjoys shorter days (darker earlier), and I do enjoy the downtime over the course of the winter season, but by January I usually start suffering from cabin-fever... maybe even a little SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), and that always has a way of getting me down, but for me the snow, the cold, the whole white of it all does make for the best Christmas's of all, and that I can live with.

Oh, and... I love our fireplace!

The views are glorious here...

I love winter. I sleep better at night and after the new year I drag out my sewing machine and all the other projects I've saved up for the winter. This year I have some gourds I'm drying. I'll paint them for decorations next fall. Some of my wooden lawn ornaments need painting also.
Can't forget all the new recipes I've clipped or printed out.
If I get tired of all that I can color or read my books.
After that I start thinking about starting my seeds for next years garden.

I used to love to fly at night. It’s nice as a passenger to be able to look out the window and see the lights below, but in the cockpit, I would get a beautiful view of the heavens. I remember the very few times that I would be able to see the Northern Lights on my way to Chicago.

When I flew the Chicago-Honolulu route during winter time, my passengers were all full of smiling faces knowing that they were leaving, cold, windy, snowy Chicago and going to be in the low 80’s when they woke up.

As for now with being retired, it’s a toss up between being in Florida or staying home. January and February are the worse months for me being home.

The Northern Lights are my favourite!

I can only imagine the spectacular view above.

Wonderful Story. :)

They are very beautiful from 37,000 feet. On one Christmas Eve while flying, I saw shooting stars as I flew across the middle of the U.S. It’s amazing how far you can watch them before they disappear.

I will admit that in winter and after a fresh fallen snow, the scenery it makes is beautiful. My dad always yelled at me if he caught me walking on a snow covered walk, driveway, whatever and I had my hands in my pockets. He would tell me if I fell, I would break something.

My dad was my best friend.

Lovely story and experiences. :)

One of my favourite things in winter is a full moon on a crystal clear night when temps plummet to sub-zero.

Shiny reflective crystals form on the snow and glow in the light.

Now that I don't have to go to work, and drive through Midwest snow and ice, I don't mind Winter. I usually save up some indoor projects to keep busy with during Jan. and Feb...when the real bitter stuff hits. On a positive note....the bugs are pretty much gone by early November, and I can get outdoors until early April without covering myself with bug spray.
