Can you smell the smoke in your area? Do you have wildfire fears?

I can remember when they had controlled fires and rare to have forest fires - they could not spread. environmentalists need to go back to what worked
New Mexico will have 'controlled burns' most every year. It's a tricky balance, to much debris on forest floor can be a hazard but some helps protects young trees till they get a foothold. Plus without some ground cover the rains we had throughout July would have caused mudslides. When they are doing the controlled burns they have signs on highways the smoke visible from so people don't swamp 911 or forest service with calls.

Smelled some smoke from Oregon one day last week and the haze made the sun turn red.

i have lived most of my life amid forests. My current home is completely surrounded by forest so fire is always a concern. I've been chased out by forest fires more than a few times but so far haven't suffered a loss of whatever home I was in at the time.

A well established evacuation plan is always part of my life because I have first hand knowledge of what a forest fire can do....and how fast it can move.
