Another smoky day in Denver and another "plume" expected to arrive tomorrow.
New Mexico will have 'controlled burns' most every year. It's a tricky balance, to much debris on forest floor can be a hazard but some helps protects young trees till they get a foothold. Plus without some ground cover the rains we had throughout July would have caused mudslides. When they are doing the controlled burns they have signs on highways the smoke visible from so people don't swamp 911 or forest service with calls.I can remember when they had controlled fires and rare to have forest fires - they could not spread. environmentalists need to go back to what worked
