Canada advises against visiting U.K. amid mass demonstrations, increased risk of terrorism

Isn't that overreacting? Seems hysterical. It's not a war zone. U.K. depends on tourism.
The word probably came from embassy staff who is there on the ground with a better feel for conditions. Poor conditions, crime, protests probably have gotten too close to tourist areas including travel routes. And if one needs the police they could be tied up with a riot.

it is an over reaction... and most of it is in run down areas and towns ... and not tourist areas or suburban areas. However I wouldn't like to be in a strange country while Protest and riots are going on.. so it's best for their own peace of mind that visitors stay away.. for now.

It'll all be peaceful again in a week...

In addition, the Canadian Government has been warning Canadian citizens who are living in Lebanon that they SHOULD leave that country immediately, and that, unlike in previous situations, Canada will not be providing evacuation flights out of Lebanon.

Most of the Canadian passport holders who are living in Lebanon, were born there. They came to Canada as Immigrants, and later became Canadian citizens, then moved back to Lebanon to live. I call them "Paper Citizens ". Even if they never come back to Canada, once they reach age 65 they will be entitled to claim the Canadian Old Age Pension, every month, for as long as they live. In my personal opinion, that should not happen. JIM.

what the UK attack the UK ?...what ?
I think alot of governments are worried that if Iran does strike Israel that will be the signal to carry terror attack on what or whom ever. Also some self radicalized ISIS got caught threatening a Taylor Swift concert in Austria. Timing probably not a coincidence. Most big cities in Europe would be considered a high value target to terrorists.

Well, the Canadian government is entrusted with protecting its citizens, and informing them of a potential threat in another nation, seems like what they are supposed to do.
Yes. But this time, the Canadian Government is NOT going to provide evacuation flights out of Lebanon. Or out of Israel , either. If somebody makes the decision to live in a place where there is an ongoing series of military actions taking place, they must understand the consequences of that decision.

In 2006, Canada had to charter six passenger ships to evacuate about 15,000 Canadian passport holders from Lebanon. This time that won't happen. JIM.

Canada has pointed to the U.K.’s public alert system, which monitors terrorism and national emergency threat levels, which, as of Wednesday, is at “substantial,” which means an attack is likely.

It's been at "substantial" since early 2022. We must be careful in that our own sense of the meaning of words might not mean the same in all countries. On the UK Terror scale, "substantial" is middle of the road. There are two tiers above and two below.

From what I can gather, it seems that Canada's terror threat level is also in the middle category. Australia's current terror threat level is, "Probable", which is also in the middle of a 5 teir alert system.

The ISIS teen who plotted a terror attack on a Taylor Swift concert has been pictured for the first time as neighbours say he completely changed his look recently.

The 19-year-old ISIS fanatic has been identified as Beran A., who lived in a newly-built end-terraced house in Ternitz, nearly 50 miles south of Vienna, where he spent his childhood.

A few years ago, Beran A.'s parents - who immigrated to Austria from North Macedonia - moved into a new-built house in the Neunkirchen district of Ternitz with him and his younger sister.

Ternitz residents told local media that he used to be a 'harmless boy next door' in jeans and sneakers, who was born in Austria and attended a local school.

But Beran A. had changed recently, according to his neighbours, coinciding with his pledge of allegiance to ISIS in early July. He grew a long beard and was often spotted wearing a long-sleeved cotton shirt, with a new picture of him showing him posing with huge zombie knives and an ISIS flag.

The 19-year-old was arrested in Ternitz, south of Vienna, Wednesday morning while a second teen, aged 17, was detained in the Austrian capital in the afternoon, according to director-general for public safety Franz Ruf.

Taylor Swift was due to perform in front of an estimated 170,000 fans on August 8, 9, and 10 at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion, but the shows were cancelled last night.

Beran A. and his accomplice had planned to attack Swift's concert venue by driving into the crowd outside at 4pm today before attacking them with knives and machetes and detonating a suicide bomb.

know at 19 he's technically a teenager but I wish the media would stop calling him a 'teen' he's clearly a man...not a boy

As of noon today, the Canadian Government has removed all family members of the diplomatic staff at the Canadian Embassies in Israel, and Lebanon, to "A safe third country " and 2 RCAF transport air craft are sitting at an airfield in Cyprus, in case they are needed to evacuate Canadian Diplomatic service members from Israel or Lebanon. A statement from Global Affairs Canada says that the Embassies in those 2 country are still open, but that may change at any time. JIM.
