Canada advises against visiting U.K. amid mass demonstrations, increased risk of terrorism

In addition, the Canadian Government has been warning Canadian citizens who are living in Lebanon that they SHOULD leave that country immediately, and that, unlike in previous situations, Canada will not be providing evacuation flights out of Lebanon.

Most of the Canadian passport holders who are living in Lebanon, were born there. They came to Canada as Immigrants, and later became Canadian citizens, then moved back to Lebanon to live. I call them "Paper Citizens ". Even if they never come back to Canada, once they reach age 65 they will be entitled to claim the Canadian Old Age Pension, every month, for as long as they live. In my personal opinion, that should not happen. JIM.
I think they have to be living in Canada when they apply for OAS to receive full benefits. But if they've lived in Canada for 20 years (after turning 18), and then move out of Canada, they can apply for partial OAS. That's from the government website.

It’s really sad that any large gathering is now a target for terrorists.
.
That happened where I live back in 2013 at an annual Marathon event. They killed several people with pressure cooker bombs. We had to shelter in place for about 5 days. We were instructed not to open our doors to anyone while police hunted the bombers down. They killed one and his brother went to prison for life. It was one of the scariest weeks I've ever lived through. Just two young men.

It's dealt with, we have good law and order here and the vast majority of British people are very sensible and do not support such dreadful behaviour.
Those responsible will of course pay fully for their actions but no need for undue alarm.
"No need for undue alarm ". I guess you missed the quote yesterday about a "specially trained Police unit of 6000 officers " that are being deployed to counter the anti immigrant rioters ? Where I live here in Toronto, the entire Police service is only 5,000 people in total and this is the largest city in Canada. I think you may be under estimating just how wide spread this situation in your country is. JIMB.

The media now categorizes these protests as "riots" to help whip up opposition by undermining any sympathy. UK authoritarians have created a new crime: "armchair rioting" which covers things like Facebook posts.

Sure smells a lot like the PRC or USSR or Canada. I guess it's good these protesters don't drive trucks!

I remember that well, @chic. The man that was caught was found in someone's docked boat with injuries. That was a terrible attack!

A slight correction. The fugitive was found hiding under the cover of a boat that was parked in the back yard of somebody's house in a suburban area. JIMB.

Nope. They WERE riots. They're called riots because they actually were riots. A riot is defined as a "violent disturbance". That fits.

Incitement to violence has been against the law for many years. You seem to think it matters where you're sitting when you incite violence, others like myself will disagree.

Smells nothing at all like the USSR or PRC, perhaps you're not too familiar with what goes on there?

Indeed. Peaceful protest is okay - rioting is not.

It was. LE carried out a very successful manhunt though. Sheltering in place is terrible. People could not step outside for anything at all, not even to walk a dog or let them run in the backyard. But it worked, and they caught the perps. It was so good to get out again afterwards. I've never lived through anything like that before. It was the hardest for me.

Come to Germany. If here are riots, they are from the far left side and the immigrants. Never from the far right side. Young men attacking the police are migrants and the so-called Antifa.
Your far right side must be less tolerated since the Third Reich I suppose.

I can't comment on Germany, but it should be dealt with accordingly. For me, this isn't a left/right thing. Rioting is not okay. Burning down libraries is not okay.

The far right isn't only affecting the UK. It's been warping the US for some time. In the UK we've had riots, and since there is zero tolerance for that, we should close it down. We should banish it from the democratic process.

Canada has pointed to the U.K.’s public alert system, which monitors terrorism and national emergency threat levels, which, as of Wednesday, is at ā€œsubstantial,ā€ which means an attack is likely.
On advice from ASIO, the Australian PM has raised the terrorism threat level from "Possible" to "Probable".

In short:
The conflict in Gaza has "significantly" driven an increase in the threat of a terror incident in Australia.
The terror threat level has been raised to "probable" after being lowered in 2022.

What's next?
The prime minister has reassured Australians the change does not suggest any intelligence of an imminent attack.

ASIO lifts terror threat level to 'probable' amid heightened tensions over war in Gaza

I am not at all worried, let alone alarmed.
