Canada Wildfires, Smoke Traveling To The US

Yesterday we had an unexpected, wild thunderstorm. The wind changed direction and cleared out the valley. The smoke we had is probably adding to the smoke heading towards the US.

Wildfires are so unpredictable. They used to be rare; now they’re expected late every summer. And worse, it’s not summer yet. The big fires are starting earlier.

You can bet your booths that we are going to have more of these fires and yes, they will be starting earlier in the year and lasting longer in the fall.

I was driving this afternoon about 5:30 pm. My speed was set by my cruise control for 100 km/hr. Everyone was passing me. Most of them were driving big SUVs and there were plenty of big trucks. I saw a truck with a snowmobile on the back and another truck was pulling a huge 5th wheel. Everyone was driving like mad to reach their cottages ASAP so they could sit all the long weekend and drink all the beer they had just bought in the city.

Can we really call this a "sustainable lifestyle? I don't think so. The fires out in Alberta are more proof that global warming is real. Some may doubt but I believe.

Yeah, it does seem rather early for wildfires. It's still the wet spring sprouting and growing time??? It's not the hot, dry days of August. I don't know much about wildfires, but being this combustible now, doesn't sound too good.

I live in the Northeast, April/May usually rainy, but it's been dry up here too. Not hot, just no rain. Twice we've been under fire warnings.

Finally yesterday and the night before, we had a long, drenching rain. I hope Canada gets rain!

Wow...I didn't see anything about this on the news or my news apps! Wildfires are scary and tragic. I hope they can get things under control and sincerely hope there will be no casualties. Do you know if any homes and businesses have been destroyed Rose?

No, Diva I don't know, but I hope not. It's too early in the year for this.
I guess it's part of the desertification of North America and our western states. 😟

This is our most recent weather alert:

MONDAY: Another day of wildfire smoke from Canada is ahead. Temperatures, again, get into the 70s for most. We won’t see much storm activity either. Many will stay dry!

TUESDAY - FRIDAY: We’re going to start to see less smoke throughout the rest of this week.

The smoke is coming down the front range of the Rockies and we have gray skies but I don't smell the smoke. I mention that because sometimes we can smell it when it comes or a closer state.

We aren't really worried about local fires right now since we had more than 3 inches of rain about a week ago and localized storms since then and more forecast for later this week. I think the weather pattern has changed for many of us.

Smoke Traveling To The US

Like we don't have enough 🤪
I'm close enough to your area that if we have another major fire this year, we're going to get the smoke.

I'm worried already, I'm worried all the time about fires. I'll be looking out my window in the morning for smoke toward the hills and look if I hear sirens. Yet to hear a firefighting plane.

Most wildfires are natural. Land Management experts don't argue causes much, but they can't seem to agree on preventive measures.

I read that the EPA has blocked the BLM from taking certain measures such as selective logging and undergrowth removal to reduce natural wildfires. The EPA said it was too disturbing to the wildlife, rivers, and local ecology.

But that was years ago.

The Alberta Ministry of Forests says that 65 percent of the wild fires are caused by human activity, with only 22 percent caused by lightning. Human activity covers a wide range of things. JimB.
