Canadians Are So Polite

We say 'thank you' to Automated Banking Machines.

And the word 'sorry' means both immediately 'hello' and 'goodbye' when you accidentally bump into someone in the grocery store.

I was on vacation in Prince Edward Island, Canada in 2003.

I got lost in this rough area of town and pulled over to ask this mechanic in overalls where I could find the nearest ATM.

Me: "I'm looking for the nearest ATM.

Man: "Come again, lad??"

Me: "Oh, I'm looking for the nearest Automated Bank Machine."

Man: "Right. There's a Titless Teller two blocks up the road."

Oh man I laughed! I'd never heard that expression before...nor since!
