Zoloft belongs to a family of drugs called SSRI's.
It was another poster who mentioned there are alternatives to benzodiazepines. In turn, I responded to her with discussions I've had with my MD on various medications which have historically been used in treating anxiety disorders.
Beta-blockers were a part of those discussions. I've tried them some years ago unsucessfully, so my doctor didn't recommend them for my anxiety. I have situational anxiety and borderline panic attacks, and my MD's recommendation is benzodiazepines "as needed" (not daily). I follow his recommendation, and take only as needed. A two week prescription normally lasts me two months since I take them sparingly, as he advised. They have a potential for addiction.
Your doctor may have another recommendation, depending on your circumstances. In any case, this isn't a matter that people are usually seen for in an urgent care clinic.
