Car accident on Memorial Day.

I get all of the news from the Sheriff’s Dept. because I signed up for it a long time ago.
They posted a notice that one of their own died in a car accident at two o:clock Sunday morning.
It happened in a small town where the speed limit is not over 30 mph.
I drove down and looked at the tree that they hit and they must have been flying to not make that slight bend in the street.
Besides the 22 year old officer they said another person was killed outright and two more were taken to hospitals with critical injuries.
They posted a picture of the officer in his uniform with the usual end of duty remarks.
They didn’t name the other person who died right away.
In the comments section people were thanking the officer for his service and a few even thanked him for making the ultimate sacrifice.
He was evidently off duty because he was a corrections officer.
You can tell from remarks that this young man was a well liked upstanding friend to a lot of people.
Hope the others in that car are remembered as fondly.

Quote from OPS post
"I have a feeling that this was an off duty incident where young people were doing what they do."

One of those that didn't say who was driving or if alcohol was involved.

My original post might not have been fair at all. You just assume that when young people have one vehicle accidents at 2 AM that they have been drinking and speeding but who knows if that were the case.
I had a scary thing happen when I was younger where the return spring for the accelerator linkage broke and I couldn’t slow the car down without shifting out of gear and I flew into a rest stop off the highway and shut the engine off while it was racing like a jet engine.
But that was probably a one in a million thing to happen but that could have easily cost me my life because that was on a busy highway.
