Cardiologists Office Just Called

I also just realized I needed new prescriptions - no refills left on the old ones. I left a message on the patient portal to call in new prescriptions to my pharmacy. And it was the same thing like the blood test request - see your PCP. What is it with this guy? What's it to him that he can't request a new prescription for me or order blood work?
In my experience a doctor wants to have seen me within the past year before they are willing to renew a prescription. Maybe you could contact your previous cardiologist to see if he would renew the prescriptions? Can you switch back to the other cardiologist for future appointments?

Who originally started you on the prescriptions? If it was the cardiologist, then I think it is reasonable to expect them to renew them.

I have had specialists in the past who would do blood tests and renewals for prescriptions originally started by my primary physician, so I'd think it should be okay. Its a pity to force people to have unnecessary appointments, what a wasteful hassle.

What an amazing difference in health care providers.

With our advantage plan.
1. PCP no copay
2. Labs/blood work no copay
3. Labs/blood results scheduled a week before our every 4 month PCP office visit.
4. We are given copies of the results, our PCP discusses the results with us on our office visit.
5. Prescriptions except for Eliquis are free.
6. Prescriptions are mailed to us a month before the prescription runs out.
7.Prescription renewal is automatic. The renewal is coodinated with the prescribing doctor. If any change we will be notified by the prescribing doctor.
8.Not once in all the years we've been on our Advantage plan has there been a problem.

Reading Deb's problems makes me aware that we are fortunate to have the kind of coverage we have.

My experience has been similar to yours with my zero premium BCBS Advantage Plan.

The main difference is copays on anything other than generic medications.

His evaluation of my last visit on the patient portal was that I was "a heavy-set, pleasant, middle-aged woman." I guess 2 out of 4 isn't bad.
Did you not post that you are supposed to lose weight but that what a dietician will suggest is not what you want which is carbs and sugar. It is your health and well being!

Similar here. I am on no medication but monthly B12 shots. SO had open heart and major spinal over the last two years so slowly getting off what he can get off. Mediction renewal initiated by the pharmacy. PCP will let him know if she or one of his other providers needs to see him. Her nurse is a great admin!

The old "echo" applies everywhere. Treat people the way you want to be treated. They are generally employees not wizzards.

To my surprise, I came home from an emergency room visit with a heart monitor. The nurse who told me to go to the ER said my symptoms sounded like dehydration. I expected to be given an IV with saline water and go home in a couple of hours. Three days later, I come home with a heart monitor stuck on me and instructions to stay out of the hot tub and pool for two weeks, when I can mail the heart monitor to someone who will analyze it. I seriously need to wash my hair, but I shouldn't get the heart monitor wet.

The good news is I should continue with my exercises in the gym because that has made my heart strong and better able to deal with the electrical problem I am having. I just started rehab to resolve a back problem, and I didn't want to stop that. I am afraid that if I stop going to the gym, I will lose my motivation.

I also have a circulation problem because of plaque in my veins. If I interpreted Google's information correctly, I have a life expectancy of 5 years, and that is good news for me. I am going to go before my mind is gone, and I can't take care of myself. That is a weight off my shoulders.

Y'know, I'm going to have to agree with you there. My mother lived to 95 with all her faculties intact and taking care of herself very well. But....I don't think I have it in me to shuffle along this mortal coil that long with my health and mind intact. I don't want to be a burden to either myself or others.

Have you seen the movie Harold and Maude?

☺️

Yep, several times. When I lived in Michigan, there was a little theatre down the street that had been playing Harold and Maude (and almost ONLY Harold and Maud) for four years. I say "almost" because on Friday nights, they played Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Surprisingly enough, they made a living. It was a "cult" thing to go to both movies.
