Few carjack to get the car, it's the occupant that's the prize, either for financial again, or sex. It's pretty much what everybody says- don't make yourself a target, by flashing wealth, keep doors locked and windows up. Be alert, but don't live in fear.

I don't think so. Carjackers just want your car. To them, a car is cash. Soon as they open the door, they yank the driver out and hop in. Including the ones who'll jack a car because police are chasing them. All they want is the car.

Often they take a person's purse or wallet, too.

Yeah, if they're just laying on a seat or in the console, they're gone. But in most cases, they want you out of the car and them driving off in it within a few seconds. And it can happen that fast. Sometimes they'll try your door, and if it's locked, try the car behind you, especially if they're on the run. But a lot of the time, they want a car they know can get them quick money. They'll jack a whole car just for the catalytic converter or awesome tires if their buyer is secluded and not too far away.

It happens a lot on our main street here. I've had to show my gun twice. Just holding it up a bit so they can see it immediately sends them in another direction. Plus, I keep all the doors locked while driving.
